Skins?

Elvis, are skins going to be possible in the next version? Or are they possible now? There nothing in the readme's, but maybe you're being sneaky.

skins are not supported in this version yet. if you want to have skins you have to be a bad bad boy .......... elvis says it will be availible sometime in the future though.

Full health pills have faces, enemy tanks are blue, my tank is yellow (I just died), the tree numbers are just for my reference, roads have yellow lines, grass is plain green, and there's my bright blue cursor right in the middle of it.
I realize some know how, but I'm not telling unless someone important says I can.

You can tell. I am important. I don't think anyone (including elvis) cares since it is not a hack and does not slow down the game. I have been asking how to do this for a loooong time. Could u plz tell/show/teach me how?

Okay... if this post gets edited out, then obviously someone did care, but...
The easiest way to skin Bolo is to let me do it. Download these pics:

Edit them however you want. I think the positions for the buttons and windows and chat in the window are fixed, so just deal with it.
Upload them somewhere (I recommend www.uploadit.org). Send me the URLs, give me a little time (ie a week, I don't get on much), and I'll send you a new skinned version of Bolo. And I won't take any credit for it.

Or, the safer method that isn't as likely to get me in trouble:
Download a resource editor.
MAKE A BACKUP COPY OF WINBOLO.EXE!
Open winbolo.exe in the editor, look for bitmaps 107 and 108, mess with them, and save. Then run Bolo and enjoy.

I highly recommend the second method.

And maybe if this skin hacking method catches on, maybe we could post the edited bitmaps on .net somewhere? That'd be cool.

Mikemc, thats a pretty cool looking skin. I would ask for the .bmp file but I fear upsetting Elvis due some sort of distributing illegal works that derive from WinBolo. I guess I'll just wait until 1.14 is released.

Where do you put your new jpg files or whatever, like in which directory?

In 1.14 skins will be windows bitmap files placed in a zip file in a skins directory. There will be skin chooser like the current language chooser.

i got a skin that i made. IT IS SO COOL. And elvis, i would like to share it so can u make room of it in the addon page?

What mine is i took the bitmaps and mikes screen shot and took all the cool stuff from it. It is tuched up and perfect. The allies and pills are blue instead of green.

Hey, I've already made a differance in mine. I wish i had screen-shot stuff. I'm the green tank, allies are blue, and two things on the main screen are changed. The building button has in blue letters (going down on the left side) "BOAT". And the kills icon has bullets going into it.

WARNING: BEFORE STARTING ANYTHING BELOW, MAKE A COPY OF WINBOLO!!!!

I went to download.com.comand it sure worked for me. Just search for "resource editor" and download the object on top. It's Heaventools Resource Editor.

Just choose the bitmaps folder, have Heaventools save it in prog files under heaventools in project. then choose the right project. Then, edit it using Paint or GIMP or whatever, (suggested zoom: 800%) edit what you want edited, then return to Resource Editor. Choose the resources you edited (they still come up as what they used to) then choose the 3rd button from the left. On the bottom screen, choose the open button and then choose the bitmap you want.

Actually, I believe ResHack makes a copy of the file you're messin with, like Winbolo_2.exe

And as for my Skin, I'll eventually upload it to my website... It's not actually finished... I still need to change the damaged pillbox gfx and maybe the boat.
