Pre set chat messages

Mar 20, 2003 16:41 Pre set chat messages
If any of you have ever played Counter-Strike then you probably know about the prerecorded messages that you can send to other players in the game with 3 or less key strokes. I think that it would be cool if you could set up your own hot keys to send messages that you have previously set to other people in the game(sorry kinda hard to explain). this could be very use full to tell team mates what to do in certain situations instead of ctrl+m and then typing the message...

Even tho this topic would go nicely in "feature requests" I will comment on your topic.

The notion of pre-defined "chat" or "taunt" keys has been kicked around before; mostly by Suicide Jockey, Min, and myself. I would personally like to see them implemented into the game itself by JM, but I think it'd be easier just to code a borg *looks at Min* that'll recognize certain keypresses (or just one key) and send a message to the newswire.

heh, ya I could program taunt messages in... but right now its fairly low on my priority list... working on some other stuff (spawner) and then I'll be looking towards the borg...

If you want to have preset messages i would sugest using a program like hotkeys...You can then tell it to press ctrl+m and the message with a hotkey...

I would recommend Roger Wilco (RW), Team Speak (TS), or any other voice chat. They are both used in Medal of honor allied assault and counter strike. I've been an admin of OGL ladders for about 2 months now and i've recommended no taunts, you have something to say keep it to yourself and teammates and save the conflicts. For moh:aa we don't allow teams to taunt while playing in a match, it will cause they to forfit if they do. In game taunts cause people to gain stress and more aggrivation through the game and less fun. Taunts cause people to dislike and build hate between one another. People in winbolo have gotten along well. I would hate to see people get mad over a new game feature. I have even tried to get people to use Voice chat. No team matches have occured to mabe players will consider it then.

AJR, not voice stuff, but newswire messages. You know, the things you read? Sure it'd be nice if everyone had a working microphone and downloaded RW or TS and then logged on the right server and channel and listened during a game.. but just about no one that plays WinBolo does. So, when you want to reach everyone, you want to reach the lowest common denominator, which in this case is what program everyone has if they're playing WinBolo; which is WinBolo.

Do you even know what ASSIM is talking about? It has nothing to do with the newswire. In counter-strike you would press "V" and a menu would pop up allowing you to choose, team commands, taunts, team taunts, actions etc. Making it earsier to let others know your "attitude" in a situation than rather to type it. Basically he wants easier communication cause he is sick of typing it which takes a bit of time, So instead of going through all that trouble, voice chat is pretty easy compared to that. A mic is no more than 7$ american unless you want a nice one such as a side winder. Those are $30 american. Plus if you put voice taunts into winbolo, that would be changing the look/act towards the game and based on the voice of the taunts it would change the theme and the emotion towards the game. I don't think people could look at winbolo the same, not in a bad way though.

As far as knowing if hes talking about pre-typed messages or pre-recorded messages we do not have enough information based on his post. But from what we know, he used counter-strike as an example, and that is based on pre-recorded hotkeys.

have you stopped to consider what having streaming audio going out of your connection will do to lag/packet loss ? were as it would be pretty simple to have a setup like "hit f1 for "I roxor j00!!" hit f2 for "doh, I sux" hit f3 for "decoy north!" f4 for "decoy south!" etc ....

How do you do that? assign hotkeys to different commands to use in the message box?

I think thats what he means fi .. I think it will be simplier just to setup a borg to do it ...
