OK, I downloaded the newest version of the game and have it installed on two computers in my house where I have a local network. I cannot get the game to set up. What are all of those port numbers and such? Can someone talk a rookie through setting up a lan game?
Thanks
I know a way you can play your brains but not on a lan network,
get a brain from http://www.winbolo.us/downloads.asp.
put it in the brains folder on one of your cpu's (for a you v cpu game or just ignore the brains part for a 2 player game) go to active games hit join on one of them. THEN DO NOT HIT JOIN. hit new then choose your map. Start the brain then go to your other cpu and walla. If you get irc you dont need to do the new part.
Thank you (DD bows)

Wanna 1v1
no- over 35 actually, not too network savvy however. I used to play this on the MAC back in college in the late 80's. Just want to figure out how to get a game going so I can show my 14 year old neighbor what a cool game this is. I just need to know what I am doing wrong. I keep getting a message that this was not made for a standalone server....etc. then it does actually start the game but I cannot join it from my other computer.
Does your 14 your old neighbor have a sreename

and btw dd if youd read what hes saying he CANT 1v1 you until he can get it to work. (do as acro said and post the exact error wording)
yeah! bolo rox! :D
OK, I start by selecting LAN game. Then on the next screen, I click on the new button to start a new game. It then brings up the window that has all the game parameters on it. I the click start an open game and the following message comes up: This release of Winbolo make use of the standalone server to run network gamesThis will be changed in subsequent releases.
After I click on the OK button it starts a game. If I try to join from the other computer, It gives the message about one of the three following is wrong...etc.
I have the port setting at 27500. I have tried the IP of the host computer as well as 127.0.0.1 as suggested in another post.
ok you have 1.13 right cause when i try to do i new game it works
Yes I have version 1.13. I know I have some setting somewhere wrong. I just dont know which one and what it should be.
I chaned my IP address after running an IPconfig and then tried to launch the program. I got the same message as before and then it gave me this message: An error occurred trying to spawn the serverprocess. Is the program "WinboloDS" in the same directory as winbolo?
I checked and it is. Thanks for the help. Dont think that you are explaining anything too much as I am really not an expert on networks at all.
hrm..thisd be a geat time for elvis to magically appear and save the day :P
Really
Does anyone know that ppl on winbolo.us wanted to BAN Elvis
Wow he created winbolo y would u ban him
That's exactly true, EVERYONE in .us wanted elvis banned so he cant play winbolo.... umm, what are you smoking?
Thanks to all who tried to help with my problem. For those of you who want to know how to do it here is the answer. The program automatically makes the host computer the standalone server...15 seconds later. Enter the correct IP address for the host computer when it asks for it. Another mistake that I made was running it on Local Network instead of TCP/IP.
Then simply go to the other computers on your local network and join game in TCP/IP and enter the host IP on all other computers. Set all to port 27500 and viola! When networked, this game isnt quite as smooth as the old Mac version. There are some problems with steering while laying mines and the pillbox protocol for shooting at the nearest target is a little poorer and messes up some old pilbox tactics you could use on the old Mac version. Overalll tho, This game is spot on and brings back lots of old memories.
Thanks all!
Glad you could solve your own problem. Our community isn't that big and I guess the knowledgable ones weren't around to help you immediately. But its good to see someone passing on WinBolo to the younger crowd.
