Feb 22, 2004 07:53 Major Flaw In The Ranking System
Not Sure If Anyone Has Ever Realized It But There Is A Major Flaw In The Ranking System For Winbolo.net. Im Sure Some People Have Noticed My Account
Totals Games :17
-----------------------
Pill Takes : 12088
Base Captures : 5176
Tank Kills : 1732
I Have Attempted To Contact The Developers Directly To No Avail. So Now I Am Going Public. Wll Sorta Im Not Gonna Tell You How To Do It Or Do It For You. But I Am Going To Tell You It Can Be Done And With What.
To Do It All You Need Is Some Basic Knowledge Of Network Protocals, A Copy Of Winbolo (duh!), Some Packet Capturing Software (Like Iris), And Optionally Some Knowledge Of Programing In Any Language To Create A Method Of Rapidly Spoofing The Results. Winbolo Developers Feel Free To Contact Me Directly @ stephenmc@platinum.net (Please Not The E-Mail Address In My Profile Is Now Wrong So If Someone Can Change It To That Would Be Great As Far As I Can Tell I Cant Change it).

Also Feel Free To Reset My Stats Back To 0 It Was Just An Experiment To See If I Could Do It. Plus I Have Since Written My Own Application That Uses A Similar Method Of Loggin In Users And Keeping Track Of Statistics. Not Exactly The Same Though I Use CGI And A Ever Changing Code

dz:Who gives a damn about how he types?! How off topic.

rekcah:This is very interesting, I think you should send Elvis and whoever else helped program .net the code, so they can try programming a way to stop it. No, DO NOT tell everyone how to do it, only the programmers of Winbolo. You will soon recieve lotsa emails from MaddMaxx and other n00bs.

Well, Mr. Hacker, there are probably a great many things more constructive to do with your time than trying to make things more difficult for Elvis.

Acro, if this doesn't happen soon, chances are that hackers in the future will figure this out. And chances are that those hackers will not be willing to tell Elvis how they did it and help him to stop other hackers. ....So I think this is actually constructive in that he's helping gaurd against future deconstructiveness.

I talked to Rekcah on .com last night and I do think he mentioned that he tried to contact Elvis at least once. If not, I gave him the Bug Report page so at least one e-mail should have been sent.

Guess what.. he already gave away how to do it. As long as you've got some computer smarts (which consists of 10% of this community), you should be able to pull the same stunt he did. I guess by "telling how to do it" he would have to list explicit instructions and give links for all software used, which I hope he doesn't.
