My 1.14 error

Mar 08, 2004 23:57 My 1.14 error
OK. Didn't take long for me to run into problems with 1.14. I can't join a single internet game. The program starts to open and then becomes a white screen with the bolo menu at the top and stops responding. :( Works fine in practice mode. Help me, o help me master Elvis.

So after you click the join button, the main window appears but is completely white except for the menu bar at the top? No background is displayed?

Try joining a game on winbolo.net. Does your name appear to say you are joining? Does it say you have left the game when your screen goes white or does it think your still in the game?

I may have fixed it. I discovered the default drive letter for winbolo 1.14 installation is (C). However, my primary drive is (F) and the slave is (C). So I was apparently trying to operate 1.14 on (F) from (C). But everything on (F) was 1.13. I just deleted EVERYTHING related to bolo on both drives and reinstalled 1.14 on (F). Seems to work fine. ooops.

I seem to have the same problem Acro described. The whole winbolo window appears white except for the title bar.

WBN says I joined the game. Within a few seconds it also says I left the game. I was able to play at least 5 games of 1.14 succesfully before this started happening. I am running Win2k Pro.

Are you using skins or not?
Mar 15, 2004 00:14
Nope, not using any skins. When this happens I check my task manager and there's at least one other copy of winbolo.exe listed although it does not appear on my desktop.

I have had this happen twice, in a row. I killed the process and the 3rd time the game opened fine. So it seems something happened that first time that killed the game load. But this has only happened to me that one time.

I've had this happen at least 15 times .... everytime I close winbolo it leaves a copy of itself ... if I don't end process this copy I can't open winbolo again. Getting very frustrated trying to play these days .. I havn't tried to open winbolo in 3-4 days now becuase of this annoyance.

What Operating Systems is the occuring on? What Service Pack? Anyone sent a bug report?

Everytime I close winbolo it leaves a copy of itself

Every single time without fail? For single player and multiplayer games? Are you checking the task manager after exiting WinBolo and seeing that there is a process left there, or are you checking when it locks up and seeing an extra process that you believe has been left there from the last time WinBolo exit?

XP Home, SP1. Only happened once to me, so no report since I have no details to add.

I think what Min is saying (and he can correct me if I'm wrong), is that it 'leaves a copy' in the task manager... a dead process. So yea, there is a process left over, or at least there was when it happened to me.

1.13 always left a copy of the 'compose message' process running on my winxp sp1, which interfered with shutdown. 1.14 does not seem to.

Windows XP proffesional, service pack 0, bug report? .. no .. perhaps you should put a bug report form on winbolo.net someplace obvious so that we don't have to go hunting for the stupid thing over on lgm.com

I apologize, It doesn't do it "everytime" .... I should have said "very often" .. if I simply open winbolo, join a game, and then quit, it doesn't leave a copy of itself, usually it does this after I've played a fairly long game that completes the regular way (by all the bases being obtained). The day I was refering too in particular, I was trying to join a game, everytime I tried to join the game, it would white screen on me (the winbolo screen would turn white except for the menu bar) after I tried to get it to refresh(by minimizing it and the bringing it back to the forground) it would only show the menu bar itself, and I would have to end the process. This happened a number of times in a row. Which may or may not be related. I found with 1.13, every 7 or 8 times I opened winbolo and played full games, it would leave a copy of itself, but this copy of itself didn't really effect anything, I was still able to open a new copy and load a game, I just noticed it sitting there on the task manager doing nothing. So it was hardly a "problem" ..... with 1.14 however, if it leaves a copy of itself (which it seems to do far more often) it will whitescreen everytime. I doubt I can give you anymore useful information, the reason I don't send you bug reports ... is unless its something I can replicate without fail, everytime. There is hardly a point .. since you will have a difficult time finding it anyways.
