Winbolo Ethics/Ideals

I would like to know if you people think that killing all the pillboxes, taking them, planting them, and leaving the alliance is OK. Personally, i don't. trying to stop such an action could result in a vendetta against you from all the other allies, or the alliance collapsing. I think that whoever is planning to do this should declare this two to five minutes before he plants his/her/it/the/the thing first betrayal pillbox. Also Winbolo.net should have a chat room. A large one, not too big though. Not too small either. Maybe decorated in 13th century attire. And also a swimming pool. And a pictures post area, like the map area. and a "personal datrboard" area where we can argue and get flame wars started, whatever they are, without being locked. Of course the Administrators could try and stop them if they wanted with a few word of pees. piece. crap. peace, its one of the three. A link to winbolo.us, to make it a little more active, hopefully. If anyone else wants to complain, go ahead and make it part of this forum.

Indeed, I implore the richest of us to donate land and money to the creation of a winbolo clubhouse where we can have a small but poweful network of computers in cubicles with direct connections to the internet, say 1MB up, 2MB down or something like that. Make up picture IDs to wear at all times on clubhouse grounds. Paid airfare to the chosen state or country would have to be included. Waterfront property would be ideal, so we could unwind with a lil' boating or swimming between games or use the retractable billiards table for some non - bolo related gaming.

Don't listen to that evil fucker ren, i suggest that u also use the .com channel. Also, don't use some shitty java-chat thingy, use mIRC to connect to teh chatrooms, it's da reel McCoy. Go to www.mirc.com to get mIRC, then use MY wicked, n33t, shw33t, l33t, online tutorial to connect to BOTH the .com and the .us servers. you can view the tutorial h33r: http://www.geocities.com/maxrocks_1/Tutorial.html . Any feedback would be nice :D

Acro, I was looking at a nice piece of land on the French Riviera, reasonably priced. Also, don't even consider Venice, its all sewer. Maybe we could just buy one of the State of Hawaii's island. Although these locations may be too sophisticated (man i hope i spelled that right) for some of the bolo.neters. Not to mentions names (see memberlist 3rd page and on for these people, exclude me from the insanity.) 8)

When people ask me why I made Bolo the way it is, two board games come to mind which I think served as inspiration for some of the concepts I have tried to include in Bolo.

. . .

2. "Diplomacy"

At first sight Diplomacy would seem to have little in common with Bolo, but it has elements which I tried to include. The most obvious is the alliances -- the shifting, uncertain, treacherous alliances, of players making promises they don't keep, of players offering support but then 'forgetting' or 'accidentally' doing the wrong thing by mistake.

The other feature of Diplomacy which deserves mention is the simultaneous play aspect -- all players decides their moves (and write them down on paper) at the same time, uncertain of what other players' plans may be. In chess and most other games, you decide your move with full knowledge of the state of the board. In Diplomacy, it is only after you have committed yourself to a series of moves that you find out whether other players have themselves made moves which render your own useless. It was this aspect of having to make decisions, to formulate plans and strategies with only partial or even sometimes incorrect knowledge, which I wanted to capture in Bolo.

My interpretation is that Mr. Cheshire intentionally designed the alliance system in a way that promotes treachery, or at least he attempted to do so. If you have burning desires to stab people in the back, I say stab them once for your own purposes and once for me. Keep in mind however, that being a regular Winboloer (who develops a reputation) introduces a political aspect to the game. If you betray your allies every time you play, don’t be too surprised when someone betrays you or, in a worst case scenario, people refuse to be your ally.

Small but powerful network?
Cubicles?
Picture IDs?
Waterfront?
Retractable billiards?

Gasp; I like your style. I will go with this; I will bring it up at the next secret inner cabal meeting (in 3 years time in Rio; the last one was in Saigon, 12 months ago); I must add a cautionary note though;
Bolo is a very traditional game and the bolo elite are very conscious
of the need to move forward while at the same time, maintaining
the great traditions and values of the game. So, I will try to get as much
of the above in as I can BUT I may have to do some horse trading
and I may have to include Vengeance's 13th Century look decor
as a sweetener. I will see what I can do but I can
speak openly and honestly here and say that I feel you are making a
wonderful and concrete contribution to the Winbolo world.
Many players just moan and groan about each other OR
indulge in surreal and silly suggestions.
