Calgary Recommendations

Well I tried this once before so I thought I would again. Looks like I may be in Calgary in a few weeks time. What do people recommend to do/see in this city?

Not neccessarily in order of excitement:
Stay in bed
Fly out on next plane
Walk up to nearest large man and exclaim how like the US it is in Canada
Drive to Rockies (only 5 hours away)
Avoid Edmonton

I actually really like Canada; I have never been to Calgary
but I imagine it is sort of like Iowa with Queen's on coins.
Or maybe like Australia with polar bears.

Mountains rock. I had the pleasure of hiking in Glacier National Park, which borders on Banff and the canadian border. I'll take outdoor vacations over streets, shops, and car exhaust anytime.

Glacier is on the border of our Waterton National Park, not Banff :) I've hiked both of them, they are an awsome sight.

Funny how incorrect information got seeded into my mind in 1990 and has remained incorrect until now...Is Banff at least NEAR Glacier/Waterton?

Can't say I've been to Calgary, but it reminds me of Denver. Mountain backdrop but with more cowboys.

But some sites:

Looks like the sites are: Heritage Park, Glenbow Museum, Fort Calgary, Canada Olympic Park and of course RODEO!!!!! YEE HAW!

But Banff seems pretty close and you would enjoy Elvis.

Well Elvis, in Calgary there is the tower, symphony, au claire market, I recall going to a science center there, and the olympic park. If you want to drive out of town an hour or two you can hit the rockies in canmore, banff, jasper and lake louise. Go in the gondolas to the top and have a look down on the world, hiking is good too, the three sisters are in canmore, which I am hoping to drag min hiking up one day, since I've already done the national glacier park, but thats a ways out of the way on the rogers pass. I'm not sure when it opens, but there is also calaway park, an amusment park just outside of calgary. As min said, he would like to come visit, and I'm sure if sj comes up too, you guys will have fun :) (just don't let min talk your ear off about coding :P)

Does Elvis get to spank Min if he doesn't behave? If so, I'd like a video.

I'm surprised that travel agencies haven't "eliminated" you. They must not have heard that one, otherwise they would've gotten you out of the way to make Calgary a nice, MM-free spot.

Baseball bats and sand... baseball bats and sand.

No need for that level of violence, SJ. A second frontal lobotomy should provide the necessary calming effect. :D
