Hmm... Have you ever played a version of Classic bolo on an old mac? I have a few times. It was a blast. :D
A long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, I was actually skinny. This was when I was about 5. My uncle dropped a Macintosh on the floor and sold it to us for about $500. We were pretty excited about it. "Oh, boy!!! It's got 150 megs on it!!!" A few years later, my mom brings home this CD with various software and games on it. There were some Ambrosia SW games on there, such as "Aperion", "Escape Velocity", "Ultima III"... and some other shit on there. And along with all that, there was this curious little game called "Bolo."
I messed around with that for a little bit. I "strafed" the pills in order to kill them and had absolutely no idea what the hell I was doing. I made some maps and had a good time with it. Never knew that you could get on the net and play with other people. I was plagued with these questions like "Do your pillboxes shoot enemy pillboxes?" and "How do you win this damn game???"
Few years later, we moved up to a more advanced Macintosh. That was also pretty awesome. It had 6 gigabytes on it and also came with a game called "Mechwarrior." Fooled around with that for a bit, had some good times. Never got past some levels without cheats. :) Anyhoo, so I downloaded the "Jolo Starterpack," and by then version 0.99.7 was out. One day, I opened up "BoloBuddy," which was the tracker for Mac Bolo. I joined games and instantly earned the title of "Tracker Newbie." I disrupted games, refused to leave games, cussed people out and had no idea what the fuck I was doing. I played that for about six months or so, and I still had no idea what the hell I was doing until my 'rents got us an eMachine. I searched for a windows version and now here I am, since Nemokrad introduced me into #winbolo. (I think his rationale for that particular action was that #winbolo was acting dead at the time and he thought that I could bring some life into the channel.)
So... here I am. You can blame Nemokrad now. :)
Yes, You might consider me a vet, but I don't. I have been playing Win/Bolo for several years, also managing to gain some..."expirience"... I also started on Macs at School, this is where I honed my skills and became the player I was four years ago. Of course, I only had access to Macs, and therefore Bolo, at school. What a tradegy. After two years on Macs, our school got a brand new PC Lab, complete with 30 computers (including 15" monitiors), 265MB of SDRAM, 40GB Hard Drives, and processor at 1.4 GHz. Considering this was a budget problem year for the Oregon's educational programs, and a middle school, it was an amazing happening.
Anyway, Me and "The Elite" or "Pact of the Elite" was created. Me and the other unstoppables banded together to help and hinder all young hopefuls. In our likeness players have modeled their callsigns, such as Vengeance Hunter (Horribly unsuccesful, stupid 6th graders) and Vengence (That's just sad).
When I came to Winbolo.net, I was young and still the same age I am now. Here, actually when I finally started playting on-line, I discovered several strange and new techniques such as placing a pill in an enemies fortification, mining for moats, and putting pills next to bases to protect them. I have learned to adopt these traits, Oh...not to mention builder sniping. I also have found a lot of glitches in the game, such as how to put someone's builder in a wall, and how to regain all supplies by building a wall (not with a hack, though if that one exists I wouldn't mind having it...actually any hack would do.)
Also, our Macs had Escape Velocity on them too. INteresting and boring game, both at different points. If anyone wanted me to shorten this complain in the complaint section postedf here...

Also I think Elvis should create a whiners sections at the very bottom undetrneath general chat under Nothing Important.
I have had some of the best times of Win/Bolo at Winbolo.net, and I have also found friends that I remeber always and made memories that will never fail. If I ever choose to stop playing Win/Bolo, refer to this column as my good-bye. :P
lol, yea min. But locking gaems with passwords encourages users to join teh IRC channilz.
That's what Nemo told me. *shrug*
did anyone actually read all my stuff?
I personally like having locked games away from newbies. When i was a newb i wanted to be in the pwed games so much I finaly figured out how to get on teh IRC channel and relized I fucking suck. I couldn't beliedve there was en entire world of "strict" games thats I had never really played.
The players who truely want to get batter will. Locking games to newbs is good.
if you dont agree to bad. We all have our won thoughts.
