I'm outtie

Apr 27, 2004 18:40 I'm outtie
well ladies and gents it's time for me to walk away from winbolo. I can't say for how long, but more than likely a good while. I came back to check out version 1.14 after a short break. Unfortunately, it seems a lot of the veterans have either left or are unsatisfied with the new version. I also really don't care for many of the attitudes of winbolo's growing prepubescent crowd. It takes to long to organize games now, especially with what I observed as a lack of good players. Good, not necessarily meaning their skill level, but the attitude they have towards the game. I would be lying if I said I was the perfect angel, but anyway.... I think another big issue I have is the constant playing of the same maps. That's always been an issue for me. I don't quite understand why players even make new maps when it seems I'm the only one who tries maps other then chew toy 3. Different maps make for different games and different startegy used. I would never put my girlfriend in the same position everytime, but I guess some people are boring and they do the same thing over and over again. The next thing you know you're leaving your girl behind to find something more exciting. I do like chew toy 3, but take a look at how many times a day it's played compared to other maps. I guess I should really thank Min for introducing me to several different maps. I tried doing the same thing with some of the newer players, but I think that they feel they have the best chance of success on a map they played twenty times that day already. blah blah blah, right. I could go on and on about why I'm leaving now. The bottom line is winbolo is no longer fun. I'm sure I'll still visit irc occasionally, so don't get too upset about your token winboloer leaving. As Tony Montana would say,"Say so long to the bad guy!"

 Sorry to see you leave, the latest newbs. to come are really bad, they keep on typing f*cking dumb things at other players, the flaming has really gottin bad, its sad to not see more vets playing, hope you come back sometime in the near future! (f*cking newbs. >_<!)

Who's gonna torment ren now?
Apr 27, 2004 21:43
I think Mad Maxx still has plenty of torment for his good buddy Ren.

Sorry you're taking off, man -- I can certainly understand why, as I wrote something similar not too long ago. In the end, I don't enjoy winbolo enough to just play constantly against people who have no redeeming value. It's fun, but not that much fun. Part of (win)bolo's appeal has always been the existence of a core group of vets who, even if they aren't always on par skill-wise, enjoy going at it and have a basic level of respect for one another. Once those types of players start leaving, it tends to cause a chain reaction.

I wish you all the best.

Sky.. i'm sorry to see you go.. I had lots of fun playing with you even though most of the time we thought. I look forward to seeing you drop by again. Sorry to see ya go.

Tis' quite a shame to see you leaving sky! This sux balls :x . I will continue to torment ren for you. I now pledge that I will NEVER start another chew toy three game or suggest others to do so (if they start it, however, I will still join). Come back soon! ;)

Man....winbolo is slowly dying...what we need is to advertise, and raise players individually (if you just give newbs winbolo, they go all nitso and dont know what theyre doing.)

i think someone needs to make a super-tutorial that shows you how to not just shoo and rive, but to do pilltakes, and diferent srategies, and a special lgm sniping practice thing. i guess the problem with winbolo is the learning curve is so steep....*sigh* :(

KEEP BRINGIN NEW PPL IN AND SHOW HOW ITS DONE IF YA WANNA KEEP IT ALIVE!

Bleh. I just played winbolo today - my first day after a 2.5 months absence. I played a a few hours of games - open and strict - and man I understand exactly how you feel in that post Sky. It was a big exersize in frustration and I really did not have fun and it doesn't make me want to play again anytime soon.

heh, well ... this is all very amusing ... so I figured I'd tack my thoughts on ... in truth I think I know whats caused this ... chain reaction as kax put it, and I would really like his opinion on this theory ...... there is this thing called negative reenforcement ..... new players come along who have bad attitudes, and no real respect for other players. Yet we do nothing about it, we have no level of control that will make them realize they should treat everyone with respect. So they don't. ......... just my thoughts anyways ........... if we don't try to make people realize that they need to treat others with respect if they wish to keep playing, otherwise they don't get to play..... then I certianly don't expect this to change.

Negative reinforcement certainly has its place, but the problem is that winbolo, in my experience, doesn't have the necessary critical mass of players to make it work. The choice is often between playing a game with ijits and not playing at all. It's made worse by the fact that it really only takes one ijit to ruin an entire game.

For me, a fair amount of the frustration would be fixed with a game starting / team making interface that actually made sense. If teams could be set and starting locations established before the game began, that would stop some of the neverending

"Where are we?"
"Go west!"
"Those teams aren't fair"
"What teams do you want then?"
"I'll brb."
"Finally, we have teams, are we ready?"
"No, our player is missing."

*gag*

And now, some observations from the resident cynic:

(1) Putting "KTHXBYE" in your post does not make you witty or lend you cache. There are a couple of people who started doing it, which is fine, but now every other post has it, and it's completely pathetic. It's almost like copying a quote someone has in his signature. Yick.

(2) I can't tell you how much it brightens my day to check the forums occasionally and still see constant posts about who should/shouldn't have ops. It's indescribably sad. Grow up. Is that really how you want to spend you life?

(3) MM, may God have mercy on your soul.
Apr 28, 2004 21:04
well there you go I suppose. Pretty much means we've got no hope doesn't it?

None of this bothers me. What bothers me is flaws in the game itself that make it frustrating to play....ridiculous respawns, pill bugs, void screen errors, and the like. Especially problematic is the inability or unwillingness of the game's creator(s) to resolve those issues.

anyone can quit anytime they want. they don't need to play winbolo for the rest of the lifes. if sky wants to quit. he can quit. we have no right to question that. that fact of the matter is that your the quitter. you give up to soon in games. but sky, he keep on fighting until the end.
anyway
