Dead VGA Device

May 17, 2004 00:20 Dead VGA Device
Ok, I gave up on trying to upgrade the 120 MHZ Pentium S machine with the 1GB hard drive. Now I have another machine I'm trying to get running. Everything works, but I have only 16 colors (Win98SE) due to the fact that the device manager tells me, 'The device cannot find any free Input/Output Range (I/O) resources to use. (code 12). It's an older ATI 'Rage IIc' display adaptor.

System information says the device is causing a resource conflict; and (I/O) is filled with hundreds of 'aliases', whatever that is.

Any thoughts? FI, Sheeps, Min? Other people?
I will consider begging, if required. :D

I'll help you, but you have to agree to eat chocolate sauce off my ear.

Have you tried installing drivers from the manufacturers website?

I had this problem once, do you have any other video cards in the machine? try uninstalling those if you do have them. If not, try different I/O values. Windows has presets that might be free.

Initially, yes; although I got them from driverguide.com.

Anyway, I wiped the system and reinstalled win98 and a new 64MB card and the colors are 32 bits of sweetness now! Thanks, anyway, Elvis and Jason. Shame on you, Nova.

This system is nothing special - 128 mb of ram, 15 Gig.,600 mhz...but DAMN. It's lightning fast since the clean install, and I got it for $129. WOOHOO!!!!!

the video card was conflicting with another device, you simply had to find that other device and force it to a different resources .....
