ScanDisk won't work...

I tried defragmenting my system the other day. It gave me a response that "your disk has too many errors blah blah blah". Not the first time it's happened, so I click on ScanDisk. After a while, I got an error message that states "ScanDisk has restarted 10 times because some program is writing into Windows. Close windows, yadda yadda." I had no windows open and I had already disabled the screensaver. I hit Cntrl-Alt+Delete and I saw no programs running that looked out of the ordinary, but it would be hard to say because I don't know what any of them mean. Since I'm trying to post this while it's still fresh in my mind I'll get the exact error message later and also the list of programs running.

Wipe the system.

Do you have an anti-virus program or a anti-spybot program?

Hmph... so after about two hours I successfully scanned and defragged the system. Go figure. Thanks to all who helped me out here.
