Different levels of damage on things in winbolo?

May 31, 2004 00:45 Different levels of damage on things in winbolo?
Currently, in its present form, WinBolo registers that normal blocks take the same amount of shots to destroy as damaged blocks... 5 shells. In Mac Bolo there was a definite difference. Damaged blocks took 4 shells, normal blocks took 5 shells. No, it's not a big great deal but it lends to my point.

In addition to a fix for this, I would also like to be able to create maps with different levels of damage on all things. Different levels of damage on rubble, grass and swamp (when these things are shot from the sea, they take 5 shots to turn into shallow water with the exception of grass, which, after 5 shots, turns into swamp). It would also be nice to have all 5 levels of damage on blocks as well.

I don't really own this idea. Underdog and I had a conversation about it a few nights ago. It had slipped my mind, and since he hasn't posted anything about it yet, I figured I'd get in here and post something.

Suggested colors:

For the three missing levels of damage on blocks: red, orange and white. (Note that these colors will only be visible from the thumbnail. The new pictures for crumbling blocks will NOT be these colors. Rather, they will be an appropriate picture that portrays their decayed state, rather like a pillbox.)

We didn't really discuss the other types of terrain all that much, but I'd appreciate suggestions along with your posts.

This addition would give people more tactical information, as well as adding in more colors for mapmakers to use. It's impossible to tell how many shots a block is going to take to be destroyed if you haven't seen it been shot at. Depending on the map, it could take five shots to destroy, even though the block is "damaged".

I'd say that these are just my two cents, but my thoughts now cost 10 bucks. For those of you who are Calvin and Hobbes fans, I'll cut it down to 25 cents USD. :)

Nice ideas (cept for the coloured walls shit). If you want anyone to listen to you I suggest that you fix your spelling of "colour", as you are missing the "u".

color may be spelled either color or colour I think that they spell it colour in canada and england??? please correct me if I'm wrong but I know that it may be spelled either way

Okay, let me set this straight, because I just realized that I didn't really make this clear. The "colored walls shit"... those colors were meant to be like that ONLY FROM THE THUMBNAIL. When you're actually playing the game, you'll see a different level of of damage, rather like you would with a pillbox. With each shot you fire at a pillbox, you see it crumble more and more. If Elvis decides to fix this, with each shot you will see the wall crumble more and more.

I'll also edit my post to rectify this mistake, so don't freak out if you don't see these errors.

Well, the correct way, whilst using the English language (not the disgusting, twisted, shit of a language known as American), is "colour". They spell it that way wherever proper English is spoken. Yes, this includes Canada.

You could always push for Canada to spell it "culur" since you don't use your O's up there anyway.

Just so that all this shit doesn't get terribly off topic, I will concede my joke and admit my knowledge that not all Canadians forget about the O-letter when speaking. As someone before me said, I can't remember who...

"All general statements are false."

So, just to get things back on track... any suggested colors? To help out, I'll give you the list of stuff we need. To help shorten this up, I'll post the name of the terrain and the number of shells it takes to tear down right next to it.

Try to make sure that you don't pick colors that have already been chosen, please.

Rubble 4-1: gradually lightening purple.
Swamp4-1: Gradually lightening shades of yellow.
Grass4-1: Gradually lightening shades of gray.

Thoughts?

The idea is interesting, but for people like me who have trouble with colors, I'm grateful all blocks and block damage are brown. Otherwise, I could mistake a certain block for a pill or whatever, especially considering that I use FIs funky skin or may use other skins in the future with different colors. Even if I didn't confuse things, the extra colors would be a distraction. I'd like to see attention paid firstly to the still problematic bugs that plague the winbolo program.

That said, I'd like to see block damage take 4 shots to kill (as Nova suggested), not 5 if placed by the mapmaker. I still have to keep reminding myself to shoot block damage 5 times even though it's been a long time since I played macbolo. Old habits die hard.

It's 'color' not 'colour'
It's CARE-UH-MELL, not 'CAR-MULL'
:D :) 8) :) :D

The new block damage images would also be brown, but they'd be more decayed with each new shot. THE COLORS WOULD ONLY BE VISIBLE FROM THE THUMBNAIL. Perhaps if Elvis agrees to do this he could host a competition for the best images of damaged things.

I do have to agree with Acro on one point... we need to take care of some bugs before adding in things. What we're getting is the Leaning Tower of Pisa... we're fucking up the foundations by not fixing LGM bugs, pill bugs, etc. and adding more on.
