A simple solution

A simple solution

Ok, some ppl want moderation on flaming, others want no moderation except for pics, others want moderation on this others refuse that kind of moderation, etc.

So here's a simple solution I humbly submit that can probably satisfy most ppl's different needs.

Allow the Thread Starter to state the policy of the thread at the beginning. Then if someone breaks the policy the Thread Starter can request that the post be moved out of his thread, and mod would thus be able to move that post out. The mod would not move the post out of the thread unless the Thread Starter requests it. And I stress the post would be moved, not deleted (unless it contains a pic that goes against the policy). It is much easier to ignore threads started by a specific person, then it is to ignore one hijaking post within a thread.

Therefore, those of us who want peace in our thread can have peace.

Those who want to flame away freely can and the rest of us know which thread to ignore.

Those who want to have threads devoted solely to a contest, can have that without fear of hijaking or coming across something offensive.

Those who want a thread devoted solely to how great min is, or how small FI's balls are can have that without fear of interference.

Those newbies who want to ask for help without getting a barrage of insults, could do so.

We can all have our cake and eat it too. I would be comfortable with that, rather then a universal policy that applies to everyone and allow only a handfull of people to be the judge, jury and executioner over everyone's elses posts. This way people can choose which kind of policy they like, and spend their time reading or posting in the thread they prefer with like-minded people.

and why don't we just have a standard policy just like every other web forum on the internet ... what works for them can't work for us? ..... why reinvent the wheel .... for all we know, your method will just piss people off more than any other method we could try

this all reminds me of another web forum I visit, after updating their forum to a nice new format (very similar to ours) they didn't create a forum policy ..... after awhile, people started abusing the forum (gasp.. just like this one) .... this forced the admins to create a global policy that dealt with everything forum related .... people sniveled .. and complained .. and sniveled some more ..... the admin's said "tough, behave and you won't have to worry about it" .... since then, everyone started to behave, and the forum moderators havn't been required to use any of their policies .... because the rules were obvious, and people knew not to screw around with things .... since then the forum has exploded with growth, and relevant posts regarding the subject matter .... just in case you think I'm just blowing steam .....

Isn't it obvious min? The person or people in charge here DON'T WANT an FMP that makes sense. Otherwise, it would already have been implemented.

Aside from determining if people actually want that, we'd first have to look to the brains behind the site to determine if an option like that even existed. Elvis and Thomas would know better than I.

I think you are incorrect acro .... but I'm certainly not going to argue with you about it.

I like FireIce's idea, it makes sense. If some gay lil' shit cannot tolerate swearing or porn on his topic, fuck him! He can state; at the top, that he doesn't want it there. IF, we start enforcing a strict universal policy, people will no doubt flock to some other WinBolo forum (such as .us). Min, I don't mind you, but you can shove your policy shit straight up your ass. Creating a "Global Policy" will not cause ppl to behave, it will simply cause them to not use the forums and/or use another forum.

Uh-oh, fi, MM just agreed with you. There goes your idea.

What about a regular policy update until we find an appropriate one?
Jun 19, 2004 23:59
How about we update the policy to Fi's policy. If you didn't set down any rules @ the beginning of your thread, ppl can post w/e teh fuck they want. I think this shall work puuurfectly! Congrats to Fi for coming up with such an efficient idea!

So maddmaxx, you would enjoy everyone stating at the start of there thread "please don't post here maddmaxx, your fucking stupid" and you would listen to them? It seems like it might work. But efficient is definately not a word to describe it.

well maddmaxx its obvious why your afraid of a universial policy ... becuase you will no longer be able to post such as you do ... are you afraid? ... you don't want your thousands of posts to be stilfed?

it will cause them to behave, becuase it will be enforced .... you think a global policy will make people post their porn, flame people, treat everyone like crap, respond to newbies with assinine remarks on a different forum? .. COOL .. we need one of those right away ...

I really, really love this idea.

lol, we would have some guidelines about the things you can control on a thread. Or, we could have it organized into levels. (e.g. level one you can do anything, level seven you cannot flame, level three is no swearing etc...)
Jun 20, 2004 05:52
wow, those ideas seem rather global to me. You looking for a reason to rant about anything seems to be annoying. I remember why I quit playing and posting now, it's time to stop again.

Excellent........
