Molex Connectors

Jun 30, 2004 21:28 Molex Connectors
What is a molex connector? Does it come from a power supply or is it through the board? Please be specific if possible. Also, does anyone us a HDD cooler? How does it work, etc.

Thanks

General Chat
Non WinBolo chat goes here.

This is non winbolo. He has every right to post his computer problems here, just because you are to retarded to know what molex connectors are. and Vengeance, Molex connectors are the plastic connectors coming off the end of your power supply wires, they are a standard used to connect components. For an hdd cooler it probably is a 4 pin connector etc, or maybe a 3 pin that needs an adapter. Either way if you aren't running a hdd raid or supa fast sata or scsi drives you most likely do not need an hdd cooler. Most cases are designed that airflow from the 80mm's are flowing overtop of the drives and this is sufficient.

Generally, the 4-pin Molex connectors are attached to wires that originate from the power supply unit (PSU). The 3-pin Molex connectors are usually found on things like individual fans that need to be plugged into the motherboard. UV coated Molex connectors can be found here to give you an idea of what they look like.

Yep, molex connectors hook up power to your cd-rom, hdd, etc.
Edit: hdd coolers aren't neede casue your hdd doesn't produce alot of heat to where it would overheat. They work by enlcosing your hdd with a heatsink and have fans pumping air against or from (not sure don't own one) the hdd. Of course most cases mine alike have fans pushing air across the hdd so this also acts as a cooler.

That may be the case, although in some situations it could actually happen. The main purpose of an hdd cooler is to dissapate the heat it produces, which can generally be alot. THis helps prolong the life of your hard drive. Which could be useful in a high performance drive....or some...less quality ones like maxtor and ibm deathstars.

Thanks Suicide Jockey, suicide and Sticks. And still screw you MM.

Have a Nice day.

By the way, I already found out what Molex connectors were and said it in that reply to Madd Maxx. Wasn't joking. But thanks guys, it's really nice to know there are good people in the community.

Heh, well the determination of who's 'good' and 'bad' here is in the eye of the beholder. I welcome posts about computers, though. People here helped me figure out some issues in the Athlon 64 project I had and even if it's someone else's question, I still benefit by learning more. As long as it's posted in the non-winbolo area, have at it.

I think I got called a good person......that is freakishly scary in a winbolo sort of way. Computer questions are always good....everyone who reads them learns something. Well that is if your not stupid like maddmaxx. I gues the only time they suck is when they are all "OMG MY AOLZ WON"T WORK" then 2 days later "it's 0k guys I had the cd in upside down"

Yeah, I guess it would help the life say of the scsi drives and raptors and any fast drives, but I don't think it would be needed for 7200rpm drive, it should last still a while, yeah never get an Ibm hdd they are suxor. I should be fine with my next rig, have three fans blowing in and three blowing out, so hdd would stay alot cooler and maybe live longer then a regular non premodded or modded case.
