Change the way winbolo sound works!!

Apr 11, 2003 21:07 Change the way winbolo sound works!!
This is Madd Maxx speaking... I think that in the next release of WinBolo (whenever it may be) that the old sound system using .wav files should be updated to use .mp3's. Mp3's are a lot more commonly used and they take up less space. This would mean that you wouldn't have to convert any of your custom explosion mp3's into .wav b4 using them. Plus .wav is SOOOO out-dated! (btw: the clown is MY trademark, dont steal it!) :P :D :D :)

I really don't think its justified to read in mp3 files. Typically a sound file for WinBolo will run for one second or less. MP3's are more justified when longer sound samples are used. i.e Songs.

Adding MP3 support would also bring licensing issues into play. As far as I know, MP3 is patented and software which decodes or encodes MP3's is subject to royalty/license fees.

Anyway, theres no need to fix what aint broke ;)

You have to extract that file or find it, then set it when you shutdown your computer you set the sound to "oh they got me", mine right now is chimes deal.

Or create a skin or sound pack with a wav file that plays silence for the sound of the builder dying.

Control Panel -> Sounds and Multimedia -> Sounds -> Exit Windows

As for getting the sound by itself, I dunno. Sorry if you already knew the above process.

Sorry, I thought you wrote how do I replace the builder dying sound with something else. I completely missed it.

Yes you set it in the control panels as Nova said. I'll post the sound file online at some time if you can't find it anywhere.

I haven't tried it myself, but open BoloSounds.bsd as a DLL in ResHacker or XN Resource Editor. You should get the raw WAV resources that you can save as WAV files.

I'm pretty sure there's a much easier way.
