Mines = disconnection???

Jul 07, 2004 11:49 Mines = disconnection???
Ok, I have a strange problem, after many test runs I've finally narrowed it down to the mines. At first I thought it might have been the brains, or it just inevitablly happens after some time, but no. Heres what happens.

Half the time I'm not connected to the internet, so I have some fun with a bunch of brains. I start a Local Network game and have them join the same one. I can use my builder before I run over a mine. But as soon as I run over one, I cannot use him for anything. Then about 20 seconds later an error appears:

"You have lost you connection to the server. Now dropping you to single player mode"

I am then dropped into single player mode. The other tanks are still in thier game. My running it over does not effect them, but when one of them runs over a mine, that tank is then disconnected.

I really don't know what to do. This has me really confused. Help me out guys?

Thanks,

The Muffin Man

Just the mines on the map that a tank has dropped (or and LGM has placed) or the mine-field that signifies the edge of the map?

Ok I tried some more things. The mines on the border do nothing. You just die and come back. Now, for mines that are placed using either the tab key, or placed by the builder, and that you run over, (meaning that either you or someone else placed them, but you run over them), you'll disconnect instantly. The other players will see you disapear instantly, but you'll have about a 10-20 second lag. You see the other players, but can't do anything with them. Then the error comes up and they disapear and your in single player mode.

Sounds like errors that used to happen in previous versions. Go ahead and provide as much information as possible on your computer setup, including operating system.

wow, sorry I could reply to this very fast, been busy with a lot of stuff... anyways, its a sony vaio with windows XP, pentium 4, and 512 MB of RAM. The winbolo version is 1.0.1.4. Don't know what else I can tell you thats useful.

I've had a quick look at it and it definately seems to be a problem if you are hosting a game using the inbuilt server. Try running the seperate dedicated server and seeing if you get the same results.

whats the difference between an inbuilt server, and the dedicated server, and how do I use each?

WinBoloDS is the dedicated server. It's a standalone program that, when run, turns your computer into the server. If you vist the add-ons page and scroll down to "Map Editors & Others" you should find some programs that make using WinBoloDS easier. I personally prefer WinBoloDSFE, which provides a graphical front-end to the command-line WinBoloDS.

The inbuilt server is one that you start from WinBolo itself. You do this by hitting the "New" button on various screens and then setting the game preferences and hitting OK.

Elvis, I was not aware that I could start a game using the DS and then have clients from my own computer connect to 127.0.0.1. Good information to know.

Dude ive got the same problem. Its only when you lay mines with the mine key. Your going along laying mines then bam the screen goes black and your screwed. Except you can still see the ticker. Then as soon as you go to send a message it says lost connection. Its really fucking anoying especially when you are getting chased and your tank blows up and you leave a couple pills, then then the game crashes and your opponent thinks you quit cause you are a pussy.... which you are not. n e ways whats up with that and how can it be fixed? I already tried re installing winbolo.
