What the heck is happening if your computer just restarts all of the sudden and reboots? And if the core voltage is sometimes slighlty low? Sometimes my screen just goes black and a long beep starts from my computer. There isn't a power surge things, ti's on a power strip. might be a virus, checking now. I run XP, a 400W power supply, 1.53 Ghz processor, 512 MB ram, DVD Burner, DVD Drive, Floppy, Seagate HDD 120GB.
????
Please help if you can, Thanks.

Is it overclocked? the voltage might be to low. But I'd most likely blame this on overheating issues and the mobo restarted to cool things down. Check in the bios to see your mobo's die temp.
most commonly this is caused by low power supply voltage. or a problem with unclean power coming into the computer .... a little brownout would do it.

btw, I also agree with sj regarding heat ..... could be heat related for sure, make sure to check that stuff out ... make sure your cpu cooler is properly attached etc.

Go into your bios and check out if you see a saftey shut off thing. If you do you might also see a temp. just raise this up 10 or 5 degrees. Yes also check out your cpu hs/f to see if its seated proper. If you want to get better temps. and won't have to worry about it you could get a new hs/f or just some new thermal grease. (thermal grease goes between the hs and cpu and fill the tiny pores on the cpu and hs and so there maximized contact).
Problems seem to have gone away. THanks guys, I think that it might be a low power thing and also the temp now too.
THanks, really.
Hmmm. Might it be that my graphics card has two fan blades missing?
After I took it out I can't here my computer at all!
The voltages are all up now from a core of 2.94 average to 3.14 average. Not only that my CPU runs a few degrees cooler, and the system temp is about 5 degress cooler.
Do I need to get a new power supply if I want to keep the voltage up when I get my new GeForce FX700? (that's a video card, duh) I am running a 400W now, how high should I go?
What's a good brand for power supplies and a good place to get them?
Keep your 400w. Any more is overkill for this system.
Nope just keep your psu, lol your fan had two blades missing?!? Thats going to make it unbalanced and there for hmm like theres no tomorow. Ok sounds good you got your system back up.
Edit: Why do you need such a pricey video card, you going to be gaming?
you see Mr. Suicide, i buy big parts for a small system until the system is completely overhauled. Is is pretty much a continuous upgrade process. I am on my second case, second power supply, second burner, and fifth CD/DVD drive, my third Hard drive and my second mobo. I have effectivly compiled several parts but not all the necessary parts for a computer.
I had a 250 Watt power supply that I melted, nothing else damaged. I also blew up a mobo too.
And I really want to get into gaming, s.y.k.
and yes, the sound went down about 10-15 decibels when I took the card out. I am currently running on my mobo graphics and when I buy that wicked card I will have an awesome card for my awesome computer in the future.
This is what I have built up to:
120GB Seagate 7200 RPM
Sony 8x DVD Burner
Lite-On DVD-ROM
MSI Combo-L Mobo
350 Watt power supply (checked on it, wasn't a 400W)
a floppy 3.25 (duh, they're like 8 bucks now)
a video capture card
a 5-port USB 2.0 card to add to my other 2.0 ports
By the way, what's an innexpensive very good AGP video card that is 64 or 128MB and 32+bits? I don't really need it for anything big, something like the GeForce FX200.
Um, what kind of ram and cpu you got for that system and also a good video card would be like the 128mb Radeon 9200se for about $55 at www.zipzoomfly.com its a good cheap card. Yes I know what you mean when its an ongoing update but when your on a budget you got to settle for what you can get.
don't go with ati low end solutions go for an fx5200 or an fx5600 they are going to give you your best performance for your money. ALthough the ati 9600 wouldn't be overly bad. If you want higher end go 5700, 5900xt or ati 9800pro. Super high end buy a 6800gt like I am :) 6800 ultra if you have alot of extra cash you want to throw away.
The GEForce FX5900se card cost me $250 and I was told it was a mid-priced card with some high end features. The damn thing's half as big as my mainboard, has its own fan and requires seperate power input!
Ok, this is what it looks like I'm going for quote:
"ASUS NVIDIA GeForce FX5200 Video Card, 128MB DDR, 128-BIT, DVI/TV-Out,8X AGP, Model "V9520/TD" -RETAIL"
It is for 82.00 and from newegg.com
I want to get it wish cash, not credit card, so if u guys know where I can get this exact same card for a money order in a company that is very reliable for less $$ then tell me. Oh, anybody have this card? How does it work? I play mainly Age of Empiress, Empire Earth, Shoot-em upp bang bangs, WinBolo, SimCity4 Deluxe, and MS Flight Sim 2004. Of course Winbolo doesn't need a video card, I've learned, even at 60 FPS. I wanted to know if I could pull these games with this card. I think it wil seeing as my old one was a 64 MB 32-Bit NVIDIA.
I have a DVD Burner as seondary master, a DVD-ROM as a secondary slave, and a HDD as a Primary Slave. I have the HDD on Cable Select, or rather my PC was returned in that config. The IDE cable connected to the HDD has a light gray connector and the other three connections have black connectors. To make sure u understand, I have one HDD, an open IDE slot position, and an empty Primary Master position. Do I need to move the HDD to the msater position? does the lgiht gray connector mean anything? what is the effect of having it on Primary Slave while Primary Master is open? I sent my computer in for repairs and I got the cable back with a gray connector instead of a black on it. S.Y.K.
???
Isn't it about time to go to a second page? This is pretty long so far.
I kne that was going to happen.
Any way, i mislabelled the voltage reading. The Core isn't at 2.94, it's at 1.50 and the thing that is labeled 3.3V is at 2.94, around there. Does this mean anything? How do I gix it?
