New Features: Email Forwards, Game Diaries + More

Maintenance complete and all services are up and running again. With the upgrade some new features have been added to winbolo.net

Email Forwards
All winbolo.net members now have the ability to create an email forward. This will forward all email that comes to <login>@winbolo.net to the email address supplied in their player profile. Players can also specify whether they want their email aliases visible on their profile page or not. This will allow players to send each other private messages or game requests without disclosing their real email address.

Email forward settings are available in the Modify Account page and more information can be found on the Help page.

Player Diaries
Another new feature is player diaries. Located off each player profile page is a link to their game diary. (Here is mine for example.) The game diary page displays a list of all games a player has played. Each has a link to the game log recorded on winbolo.net. The entries are stored in reverse chronological order (i.e newest at the first)

This means that all games can now be viewed. Previously after 24 hours they would disappear off the archived games page and would not be accessible any more.


Game Log Page Enhancements
Off each of the archived games logs there is now the ability to comment as well as rate the game. There is also a link to download the game log if it is available. (when the log viewer and WinBolo 1.15 is out)

Please post if you encounter any problems or have any feedback.

Also for a limited time if your current login can not have an email alias (because of invalid characters) and you would like one I will change it. Please post if you would like your login changed.

Remember to include what the name is you want your login changed to.

Another minor change was:


Map download counts. WBN now records the number of time each map is downloaded from the map collections.

oh, and also so it records in th ranks and the players front page thingy how many lgms they snipe, THEN ITS PERFECT :D

I haven't seen any information on either how to activate my wbn email address or how to access it (server settings and names). I'd like to be able to access this from my own email client rather than having it forwarded to another email address of mine.

You mean like a POP3 account Sticks?

My understanding is this is only a forward, not an email hosting service. You could always get an email POP from winbolo.us, and forward to that account.

yeah, it's kinna basic. and i like it alot! now, instead of continously telling someone your e-mail address, and having to get the to remember it, it's like " Q@winbolo.net " and bam, there you have it.

Sheeps is correct. Currently winbolo.net is only offering email forwarding/redirection. There are numerous other free mail hosting services that players can use. The idea behind it was to allow players to communicate directly with each other without having to give away their email address on initial contact.

By using forwards WBN does not need additional storage space to hold peoples mail until they read it. (This is why private messages have always been disabled) Emailing forwarding was always going to be a feature WBN was going to provide to the community however until recently this has not been technically possible to implement automatically so players can control their email alias options themself.

OK Just confirming that I will rename your WBN username from "Madd Maxx" to "MaddMaxx" I can not create aliases that do not link to a username.

NO! I am STRONGLY against people having and/or using multiple accounts! When I go to the forum page and look at the number of people signed up, I should be able to see the actual NUMBER OF PEOPLE that are signed up with .net, not how many stupid extra accounts some fucking idiots like to accumulate.

I suspect it will be out March 9th.
