I haven't released an update yet, but selections/masks are nearly done:

You can select multiple areas (by holding down shift while selecting a new area) and ellipses, as well as subtracting areas (by holding down control). You can also select individual tiles, although I haven't done a laso yet.

When you edit or apply a filter, the changes are limited to the selected area. You can mask off a complicated area and draw over them, without changing the unselected areas.

Copy and paste are to follow. I've looked at the Bolo Reich clipboard format and it should be possible to allow copying and pasting between the two programs.

I still am not terribly fond of the floating windows. Perhaps have something like MS Paint, where if you drag it off to the side it becomes stationary and out of the way, but if you want you can have it float? Aside from that, I'm greatly looking forward to it.
Oct 12, 2004 13:43 Map editor ?
Hello, I'm Alain from France.

Please, what is the name of this map editor and where could I download it ?

I learn to create maps and I'm very interseted by all maps editors !

Come to see my firsts Alain's maps

Alain,

The editor is a work in progress. You can download an early version from:

http://ziph.ucc.asn.au/cartographer/

The version on that site is a good map viewer and it also has a couple of "filters" to play with.

I'll be releasing a version with all the functionality of Bolo Reich soon (I've been slacking off and playing with fun features rather than minor things like being able to place pills lately) plus the nice bits I've already added.

You can watch this forum for release details if you're interested.

Nova,

I can get the palette to dock, but having the thumbnail in a dock would waste a large area of screen (800x300 in most cases).

If you're getting annoyed that the floating windows move back to their original positions, that will change once I've put everything that should be persistant in to the registry.

Or did you mean something else? I could also get the floating windows to "stick" to the edges of the window like WinAmp windows do.

Ianbanks, thank you for your info.

The viewer and the technical informations in this forum promise a very good map editor ! I will follow the progression of this. *

* Sorry for my english... :D

Amusing Cartographer feature of the day:

The boats you see are start points (you can place more than 16 start points on a map for convienience while editing, you just can't save them). When you place a start point now, it is aimed using "gravity" to determine the direction (1/distance^2). A small blob of land near the start will influence the direction more than a big one at a distance. Each tile is considered in the gravity field.

The screenshot above shows the resulting "gravity field" at all nearby points. There is a laaarge land mass off to the south-west--hence some of the boats in that corner are aimed that way.

You can also re-aim all of your start points on a map with a filter.

Hardware, eh. I need some framing hammers, and some replacement air tools and hoses, as well as sewer pipe elbows.

I'd actually like to be able to have the thumbnail be its own window, kinda like how the message window works in WinBolo. However, this is all excess fancy-shmancy stuff. If it gives you too much of a bother, screw it.
Work on something more important. :-)

Haven't checked your maps out yet, but please post any new maps you have in this place. This is the format for posting maps:

[map name here]

[link to map]

The purpose of having the map name is making a certain map easier to find, instead of having to click on every link to find the map you want.
