Flash (swf) map viewer

I don't understand, then, where is the problem...
I've send you a jpg file named "SkinGrid" with the tiles clearly spaced.
I send you, now, the same in png...

SkinGrid.bmp = 290 Ko
SkinGrid.jpg = 233 Ko
SkinGrid.png = 21 Ko !!!

I don't know if it will help you... Let me know ! 8)

No problem. I don't really care about the images nor do I need them. I want someone to create the Flash swf that can be used on websites to zoom and look at maps.

Then... I'm not your man ! I don't know anything about swf ! Sorry...

Maybe not have it zoomable, but when you click on the thumbnail, it shows a full-size map in a new window..? A large image, yes... but it would still be useful, because you could scroll it and actually look at pill and base placement. Might be easier until we get a flash mapviewer for it. We'll see what I can play with when school rolls around, i know they have flash tools ;)

Aaaaaaaaaah, I finally get why you would want this even if you didn't have vector tiles.

Hmmmm, wouldn't be too hard to add to Cartographer as an export format...

Not bad, not bad at all. I'm in Sy-de-ney at the moment. Doesn't someone live here?

If my memory doesn't joking with me, King_Kong lives in Canberra...
Maybe a little too far from Sydney !

(King_Kong : tell me if I'm wrong !)

...is anyone still interested in this???

I'm game for helping out with the vector imagery & programming

...so I already started working on it, and I figured it would be best to make the vector images in Flash itself, saving them as symbols in the library. I've only done a little of the roads so far, but I did it accurately to the model of the current bitmaps.

Here's the .fla: http://www.tryforceful.com/winbolo.fla

I need your input though about how to make the grass, trees, etc... the bitmap has these diagonal streaks on the grass, which I could reproduce in vectors but it'll just look the same... otherwise I could try to make like little actual grass strands, etc, for the sake of zooming in. So my question is,

should I just mimic the current tileset?

Hope people are still interested in this since I started to work on it already,

Tryforceful.

Can you export the flash in some other format? (EPS/PDF/PS/WMF/EMF/etc)

I think it'd be nice to keep the tiles authentic. Obviously you can't completely replicate them as vectors, but it would be nice if when the vectors are rendered in the original resolution they look the same as the original tiles (ignoring a bit of blur from anti-aliasing). Any attempt at modernising Bolo seems to go against some of the reasons people still play it. :)

The lines on the grass would have to be fairly wide (1/16th the width). The halftoning might be more of a challenge to do--maybe a criss-cross pattern would do it.

Regards,
Ben
