who wants to see who players have won or lost versus?

May 15, 2003 06:15 who wants to see who players have won or lost versus?
posted for nate--I am curious to see how someone got to be highly rated in the rankings. i want to know who they beat or who has beaten them. it would be nice when forming teams to see who a potential ally has beaten or lost to to get an idea of there skill level. it would also prevent some people from playing against themselves (false nicks) to bolster there ranking. any comments or suggestions? if you are against this please say why otherwise id like to see this as a new feature on winbolo.net.

I'm all for it but its not whether the players want it or not. Its up to Elvis and/or Killjoy to be able to say "yes, this can be implemented without a great expense."

A good percentage of people that voted on the topic of allowing only players that have played 1 game to be shown on the Top Rankings List voted for "yes" ( see http://www.winbolo.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=42 ). But in this case, what the players wanted still hasn't been implemented.

I was hoping to have seen more replies by now. epecially since a pluthera of people have told me what a great idea this is and that they cant understand how some people have acquired the ranking they have. Well, I think we'll need more replies gents if we want this option. :?

Nate, you're not the only one who has problem login on this forum :).

I'm on two minds on this.

One, I agree with Nate's suggestion - having a record of the 1v1 viewable ensures the system is more trustworthy. We know of certain individuals who set up dummy 2nd player to beat in order to move up.

Two, on the other hand, I don't want to lose against a newbie and have that recorded forever and ever hehe. But then, playing 1v1 with winbolo.net is voluntary, thus If I agree to use winbolo.net to record, I should be willing to take that risk.

Fi, if some newbie beats ya we'll hear about it anyhow, so big whoop. Just remember to never drink and drive-- that's how that n00b Sev beat me ;)

Hehe...ya you'd hear about it...but when you wake up sober with a hang-over the next morning you tend to forget about it :)

if this feature is implemented, I will no longer play 1x1's using winbolo.net. I don't want people knowing who I've beaten, or who's beaten me, its none of their business ..... there has gotta be a better way of determining who's being naughty with their rankings ...

You're always being difficult aren't you Min? =p

You don't lose very often and you normally play quality players so it shouldn't matter. I'm sure there's other games where 1x1's are logged and other players can see records of previous games.

I think this idea is the best one, at the moment. In addition to being able to see what player you played, there's also the ability to keep track of game length and what day the game was played on. Sort of like everyone's own personal winbolo-log.

And just like you said Min, you don't need to play 1x1's with WBN. WBN is just an incentive, an added feature to the game. Anyways, as we all know, sometimes the 1x1 standings can be misleading and I feel this option could help clear some things up.

im with min. but i do think that there should be something implimented that wont allow two games to be played offa 1 ip.

well sticks .... how is it anyone's business if I pound the same person 50-100 times? .... how is it any of anyone's business if I get pounded 50-100 times? .... if this "feature" is only availible to the person it shows ... like I could view my own win/loss record, but noone else can .. I would be all for it .... but that really defeats the reason people suggested it doesn't it? ...

So don't use WBN if it's implemented. Its not a big deal.
Jun 12, 2003 03:24
doesn't that defeat the purpose?

Min
Jun 12, 2003 03:30
Nope. The purpose is to allow all players to view past 1x1's. Why should we be able to do this? To see who played who in order to get where they currently are on the top players list.

If you're not on WBN, you can play against yourself all you want, but it'll be a giant waste of time seeing as how you won't gain any points for the top players list.

ummmm. I am confused.

http://www.cablelan.net/924/bolojournal.htm

Min, as shown above, you yourself used to keep a public log of all your games on your website for all to see with a list of who you played, how long the game lasted and especially who won. You even refused to play me "off-the-record" without recording your wins on your site...which is why we ended up not playing each other for so long...

I wonder why the apparent massive change in heart......?
Jun 12, 2003 05:19
becuase I realized a few things ..... I also don't need to publicly explain changes I make in my own behavior. This "feature" will just be another reason not to play bolo for me .... soon the reasons not to play will outweight the reasons to play..........

For the sake of transparency, as well as being able to qualify a players ranking, I think this would be a good idea. If you are using the ranking system, then in my mind you are ‘buying into’ the system, and if I really wanted to check into someone record, I could visit the archive games every day and see what has happened. But since this is a pain, I think it would be nice if the player’s page recorded a brief summary. There are many ways to boost your ranking, by either beating someone better or beating a whole bunch of lower ranked players, but to accurately judge a player, you need to know which one he or she uses.

If you go and check the professional sports rankings, they show you each game’s results, so if we want winbolo to be an Olympic sport, we better start with this.

Now as far as if this is possible, in the end, only Elvis can decide that. But as a community we can at least figure out what we would like to have.
Jun 19, 2003 02:53
doesn't as a community mean everyone gets a say? .... I don't think this level of "transparency" helps anything .... why not develop a more accurate ranking system in the first place ... guess what ... no other video games I'm aware of let you see who gets beat up by who ....
