Vanity game server domains

I have been out of the wb-loop lately, but I wanted to start a thread on vanity game servers.

Reply to this thread if you have already created a vanity domain for your winbolo game server. I will work on getting wbn to show the vanity domain (the tracker will be up to Elvis).

An example:
nycbot.winbolo.us --> cpe-68-173-217-129.nyc.res.rr.com

But you will need to setup a vanity FIRST, so talk to LRL about winbolo.us or got-game.org

I checked with my ISP and they said I have a dynamic IP with a 24-hour lease (how lame) so I won't be able to participate in this.

Acro, still talk to LRL about it, maybe there's a way that you can use acrobot.winbolo.us as a proxy or something... through your connection, so it still displays it. Dunno if it would work, but it's worth a try or two.

Well technically I have a dynamic IP also... the same dynamic IP for 6 months now. At my old place it was good for over a year.

But if your IP does adjust, then here is an idea:
- Go to http://got-game.org/
- Register a subdomain, like acrobot.got-game.org (it's free)
- Download a ddns client (Dynamic DNS): http://www.changeip.com/HomingBeacon/Setup.exe
- Setup your subdomain account, and the util will keep your IP updated.

Thats it.

I would keep an eye on your ip... You can look at showmyip.com to see if it changes. I also get a 24 hour lease, but my ip very rarely changes. Routers appear to assign leases based on the MAC address of your network card, so when you renew you usually get the same ip back again.

Ok, I set up the free one: 'acrobot.ns01.us' I also installed the IP logger. Not sure what to do next tho.

Anyway, I'm running this bot off Spintega's computer at USC

I got boombot set up with one, it shows up in IRC... but yeah, not in the tracker :/

it'd be awesome if it'd work with the tracker! then i can get rid of the stupid AOL ip. How's renbot and sheepbot show up like that then, if the tracker doesn't support it?
