There's some good guides in there. But above all, play play play as many games as you can.

Go to "Java: IRC Chat". The folks in there will have good advice, even if they're a little aggressive about it sometimes. Best thing to do is to not take anything personally and take what advice you're given.
Oh, and about Winbolo being fun... that aughta be your own opinion. It takes a long while to become good at this game, so don't get too frustrated.
