Surprised
Last night I played a couple tournament style games. Back in the mac-bolo days I rarely played anything other than tournament, but had an unnatural desire to win. Win win win. I was very agressive and found bolo extremely challenging, but not necessarily fun all the time. When I found winbolo, I was surprised that everyone seemed to play open games, wasn't too happy about that, but said what the hell and gave them a shot. I found that almost every game was fun, and I really didn't care anymore if I "won", although I do win my share.
But last night I played a couple tournament style games. I can't believe the skills I've lost. There are two factors: I don't play nearly as much as I did in ages past, and I was taking too many chances (which is common in open games).
We were playing a quad style map, 2x2. What was cool though is that pretty quickly the other team got us down to one quad, but due to the open game tactics of surrounding yourself with pills, I was much more comfortable, and we sat there and (with some back and forth) found ourselves taking pills. I've never really seen such an apparent skill focus like that.
We eventually got enough pills and fought them back to one quad, only to have myself get my man waxed a few times in a row, which lost my team the game. I lost but had a great time in a long game with good people.
Many cudos to my partner bear, who consistantly did a great job of covering my behind, and grats to both of you who ended with a checkmark in the W column.
