opening a port

im having problems hosting a game. When i start it, it appears on the tracker but no one can join. does anyone know how to open a port, such as 50000
oh by the way i have crappy microsoft ME

well first, we're going to need more information on how your network is setup, do you have a cable/dsl router?, do you have any firewall software loaded on your computer (zonealarm, sygate, etc)?

sorry about that, I have dsl and no firewall software. all i have is spybot but i was having this problem before i got that. My computer gets DSL wirelessly from another computer in this apartment which gets dsl from a wire in the wall. i appreciate the help

if your getting your connection wirelessly, how is that signal being sent? ... you will probably find a wireless router plugged into the dsl connection, if thats the case. You will need to open the port in the router software.

yes i get my internet wirelessly from my roomates computer which is commected to DSL via a wire in the wall. i will check his router to open ports, thanks for the help min
