Farm Trees Checkerboard Pattern

I was told (about a decade ago) when playing the mac version that if I harvested trees in a checkerboard pattern they would grow back faster. Does this technique work in WinBolo as well? (or was someone pulling my leg?)

Or try farming every other tree in a row so that there are no "holes" in the forest that leak outside. Also farming in a diagonal pattern helps. I'm sure the method for tree regrowth has been stated by either JM or Stu somewhere online but I can't find it at the moment.
