Heck yeah Im a newbie and proud!
Just wanted to let every newbie know that you should not let any thug shatter your dream of becoming an Internet leader.
I've been playing day and night bolo for the past 4 weeks trying to learn and have made it to rank 38 on the Strict tourney so don't give up.
Here are some of the guides I used to figure out how to take pills; they are from the days of the Macintosh computer.

(They still work :)) ) They also have some Strategy guides for you who want to master the art of clearing bases (You should note that the top Strict tournament players use these methods (I've seen them myself :D) similar to this which I have dubbed foresight by symmetry. It is a method in which you figures out what the other player is doing by looking at placement of his bases giving you an idea of what that other player is up to. This gives you an advantage over the other in your thought processes for pill placement. It is rather like a game of chess :D)
NOTE: THIS METHOD WORKS ON SYMETRICAL MAPS AND NOT THOSE BIG ONES LIKE THE ONE THAT COMES WITH BOLO.

good to see you postin some stuff to help out your fellow initiates. I remember talking to you a bit after some games a few weeks ago, but it didn't seem like I said a whole lot, except that the mac bolo website www.lgm.com/bolo had some good stuff. I'm glad you checked it out, although it seems to be down at the moment.

Recently I joined two different games where you have jump started a game, and then cussed other "wookies" (good word sev :D ) out for attempting to hold you accountable for your actions. If you wanna direct other "newbies" and give them advice, I think that is wonderful of u, but,.... I ask of a favor of you if you plan to do so: Please set the correct example!! If other "newbies" or in the procesess "learners" see you jump starting they may take that as its ok to do so, and phantom after seeing that you have looked over the sites and the rules as well as tactics of winbolo, you have no excuse for breaking rules and conduct in the game. Please consider this post CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM. I'm not trying to come down on you, rather I am trying to give you fuel and advice for your chosen assistance with the other "fellow noobs". phantom I see your trying really hard, and that is commendable, perhaps my advice and the advice of others can help you grow and learn more with future bolo expereinces. good luck! :lol:

I played MadScout today and I found something pretty darn ugly about some of the old players. THEY KNOW SOMTHING WE DONT KNOW. This crap makes me want to barff and quit bolo entirely, seriously. These things called ping attacks are hideous. They seem like lag but aren’t they PING ATTACKS and older players use them for their own gain. Not all mind you, just some. I'm sure all know about them and it is tempting I'm sure. If you are wondering why the players haven’t been banned it's because the method is untraceable. Go look up ping attacks and Dss attacks associated with this web site and you'll find a page which has been scrapped or cached in the google archives which the people of this web site DIDNT WANT YOU TO SEE. Don't ask me why it has been scrapped maybe it's because you won't come any more?? I GUESS?? I guess so. It seems the managers of this web site, who I haven’t a clue who they are, choose not to show you the written information. The only way one can view it is if they do a search on google and view the cache file. It seems to me the only reason they'd do that is because they agree with it and this poses enormous questions in my brain. DO THESE BOLO PATRONS OF THE ART USE THESE METHODS? This is terrible It’s a terrible a cheat as any and I'm sure they don't want other players of the game to know because maybe that'll ruin their fun and leave the game entirely like they did back in 99. On bolo the method looks like a lag or even a boot off of a game. People hosting their own games don't have to worry about them because all they do is drop the entire game. It's that simple! People, PLEASE DONT LISTEN TO THE RANKING SYSTEM ON HERE :roll: AND DONT BELIEVE EVERY GAME YOU PLAY IS ONE YOU'VE LOST :roll: . A game isn't a game anymore once someone changes the rules of it :o .
OK sorry for the non-explanation of the method. Here goes, the user of the method sends a small yet termoiling ping to a server or your computers IP address (is the address on the search engine at start of game). The method is used for the taking of pills and the raping of your bases. The effect on you is that you are unable to shoot anything (frustrating) for a while or that micro second in which the user needs to gain access and control of the map and all pills and bases. Players using the method use it in deciding circumstances, which usually lead to their victory.

And yes, experienced players (or any respectable non-newbie) waits to form teams before starting to play most of the time. That is why we had to develope passworded games and passworded servers, to keep people who jump start games from jump starting our games. In a passworded game, we know we can wait for more players without fear a new player will jump start the game.
And by the way, the bolo faq from the website you mentioned was made in 1994-1995. At the time, nobody started before making teams...we were all adults (18 years old was a quite a young age back then for a boloer), and so Jolo probably didn't even see the need to write "wait for teams before the go" because it was just understood. However, now we're in the year 2003, the demographics of the players have changed, so we need to write stuff that before did not need to be written in etiquette guides. And when looking at the bolo website, remember - it was made for bolo, winbolo has some subtle, but important differences (this goes also for strategy/tactics, etc).
