Further Log Viewer Information

Apr 15, 2006 15:36 Further Log Viewer Information
A few questions have been asked about the log viewer. Hopefully these will answer the common ones.

1. WinBolo Log Viewer (LV) will only be able to playback WinBolo log files. It will not play back (Mac)Bolo log files.
2. There will be no additional charge/cost for using LV. It will be included in the 1.15 distribution. If you find it useful you are encouraged to register your copy of WinBolo.
3. The beta will not have any functionality disabled that will not appear in the final release.
4. The beta will be available soon.

Any other questions, post a comment.

OK!

1) Will it show private messages and/or public messages?

2) Is there a way to disable the viewer so your games aren't viewable.

3) Will it show ip?

4) Does the game server send constant LV info to WBN as the game progress, or does it send the file all at once, once the game is finished?

Yes. Messages will either show up as:
"Message to all from <player>: Hello"
or
"Message from <player> to <player>: Hello"

2) Is there a way to disable the viewer so your games aren't viewable.

Server administrators can decided whether their games are logged or not. They can also decide if the log files are uploaded to WBN.

3) Will it show ip?

Players IP addresses will be shown when they join the game.

4) Does the game server send constant LV info to WBN as the game progress, or does it send the file all at once, once the game is finished?

When the game is finished. It will not be possible to stream a log file whilst the game is running.

I just had a crazy thought.

Is the file encrypted or is the data stored in a straight forward manner? Because if it's not encrypted, then perhaps fermat or someone else can create another site with a lot of crazy info pulled from the log file.

With info on exactly what happened during the game, stuff like this can be tallied up in the style of fermat's log site:

(all could be for each game, and tallied over lifetime of player)
- bullet shot
- bullets received
- bullets shots to pb
- bullets that missed
- bullets shot to other tanks

tree management:
- trees farmed
- trees spent on: walls, reparing lgms, fixing roads, unused (died before using)

- distanced tank traveled
- distance lgm travalled - average per trip and total distance travelled.

Time management:
- time spent sitting on base
- time spent farming
- time spent moving
- time spent not moving
- time spent with lgm out of tank
- time spent with lgm dead
- time spent with lgm inside tank
- time spent on water

etc etc.

I guess the feasibility of whether the above data mining can be done depends on what the files contains and how it is stored. Do you think that kind of data mining will be possible?

wow...that is a razy thought...i like it!

but dont you think the bullet thing would take up too much space...how abaout like...a littil toolbar that says bullet shots EX,

[code:1:8e8922ff24](player) bullets shot and missed *24*

[/code:1:8e8922ff24]

that would make everything much easyer.

From openning up a few log files it seems like they are encrypted or a compiled format (think of trying to open an .exe or .mov in Notepad).

One possible solution, if the desire was great enough, would be for Elvis to build an interface to allow access to this information. Similar to how brain/bot programming works for WinBolo.

i wonder if anyone can wright a gild too make a bot/borg
