"This will go one for ever gg"

Jun 11, 2003 06:41 "This will go one for ever gg"
Those famous words of a winboloer who is lazy, and can't play the god damn game out. It really brings me down when I here this said by someone and the whole game is ruined. The game is to be played out to the end no matter what condition you are in. Sonner or later the game will end I say if you are not up for playing a long game don't play. The game can go on forever, but I can see if there is an emergency that is fine. But most of the time it is just out of plain lazyness. So don't start and play a game that you can't end, it ruins the whole damn concecpt of playing ending and saying gg. Because for most who care it was not a good game if this occurs. To you that have read this please play the game out.

Your fellow winboloer,

Some players have jobs, spouses, and other things to do generally. I think there's an expectation of how long a typical game takes, and something 3-4 times that length with no end in sight risks disrupting more important things. That's especially true when the map is ripped apart, both sides are just drifting along on their respective sides of an interminable pillwar, etc -- not only is it disruptive of one's life, but it's boring as well, as neither side is trying to win so much as trying not to lose.

I don't think you really believe that one shouldn't start a game unless one is willing and able to play a game for as many hours as it takes to finish. No one would bother.

Thats the way I was taught (drad) so thats the way I will play ... I won't start a game unless I have 1.5 hours free at least ...

Min, I personally agree with your sentiment, and personally have never (that I recall) quit a game for this reason. But if the rule of etiquette is that one should never join a game unless he's willing to dedicate the next few hours to it, either people will ignore that guideline or they will play only rarely. Better to have sufficient numbers of players to be able to get games when you want them, I think, than to set an ethical standard that's made to be broken.

In any case, this doesn't seem to happen very often. The bigger problem, I would submit, is people saying "gg" and quitting even moderate-length games once they see that defeat is likely. Many players, I would venture, have never mounted a meaningful comeback, and that's a pity.

Respectfully,

of course they will ... they already ignore all the current ettiquette guidelines ... no reason this one would be any different.

that is becoming a rather large problem, I agree .... I learned early on (another drad lesson) that its not over until the last base is taken. I had drad down to one base ... and that base was spiked ..... he proceeded to take everything from me .. and stomp me into the ground .. that was all the lesson I required ... I'll fight on even if there is 16 pills within shooting range of my last base ... its also a matter of respect to my enemies ... to allow them the pleasure of completely finishing the battle .. (I personally get great pleasure from the endgame ...and in turn show them the same respect)

If I have prior commitments I let the other players know before I join the game or before it starts that I will be leaving in X minutes and I ask if that acceptable or would they prefer I not play at all.

well in this case everyone i no for a fact that they did not have a job or spouse or whatever it was out of plan lazyness so this only applies to them
