It's usually a script which prints out random words from a dictionary to form a sentence. Some of them follow grammar but just about all produce gibberish. (no, I'm not using one now!)

Since the initial linkspam doesn't usually bring a high click-through rate and commission check, they are used primarily on older forums and .edu links to increase pagerank to incur organic search engine hits (or now to sort of increase the quality score on google adwords).
