Walling

Jul 02, 2007 02:38 Walling
So I just finished a game (2v2) Nemokrad and I vs. Jolly Roger and Bitch. The game turned out to be a solid pillwar in the center for quite some time. Eventualy bitch started raiding my quad whenever he lost his builder. I let him tak all my bases, but i pinned him against the wall, and simply walled him in. He told jolly, quit and rejoined.

Im not here to complain (its was a fun game in all honesty). What I'm concerned about is where walling falls in our established so called "etiquette".

On the offence: Its the equivalent to mining
On the defence: Its the equivalent to rejoining because you lost your lgm

So, is walling acceptable. I think it is. (Win)Bolo is a game based around warfair. Why can't you have a PoW?

Walling is perfectly acceptable. If it's the Bitch that I'm thinking of, he's a player that has been around since the Mac days and should be more accepting of this harsher, more old-school type of play.

After coming back for a few games I find that no one mines, even tactically anymore. No one goes for LGM kills or, a favorite tactic of mine, walling in LGMs when they drop in your quad. These are perfectly acceptable within the realm of WinBolo.

I'm basically translating this into that it seems games have become more homogenous. Start up a game, build a line, and wait until someone gets bored.

Bitch never should have put himself in that position to get walled in. He's a smart enough player to weigh the pros and cons of using all of the shells in the tank. It might get him that last base but if he gets pinned (like what happened), he's screwed. But as often as we do, it's going to happen from time to time. So pay your dues and lose the game but learn and move on to the next one. I'd say it's actually bad etiquette on Bitch's part for quitting and rejoining because he got his tank walled.

i also thinks walling is acceptable, walling other players and lmgs is part of the game.

stix is right. walling is perfectly legit. id call quitting and rejoining a strict 2x2 cuz you are walled the same as forfitting cuz thats pretty much cheating in my books.

mining is perfectly legit and deforesting is perfectly legit in an even player game i say. its rather dirty in a handicap though. still technically legit but dirty. the 3 side in a 2x3, if you can get it stalled in the center, you are basically guaranteed a win if you send one guy over to just mine and kill trees for 15 minutes, then proceed to win cuz they cant rebuild their shit at the same speed you apply pressure.

but whatever. winbolo just needs better players... bitch used to be a respectable player... i wonder what happened

IM NOT COMPLAINING ABOUT IT.
I was just wondering what the better players thoughts where about *in general* rejoining after being walled.

If that sort of behavior becomes acceptable, whats next? .... rejoining if they wall your lgm?, rejoining if they kill your lgm?, its a slippery slope. If you get walled, then the best thing to do is let your allies know, and hope they come save you. Simple as that. If your ally starts screaming "I've been walled" I think that trump priority of raping a base, or killing a pill, go break them free.

Exactly Min. After he quit and rejoined I wanted to call the game. It's definitely not fair to be rejoining, people will start rejoining when they lose their LGM on a large map.

You just have to laern to deal with the situation. If you lose your builder, help your ally, back harass, rape their bases, do something. Losing your lgm doesn't meen you cant function. Walling on the other hand does though :)

Edit: But you can still message your ally. Its the cost of war sometimes.

What if you get walled while mining and in the process you shoot your own lgm that you had just sent to deforest?

lol

I've done that on too many occasions.

I just quit the game and rejoin.

I'd say walling would be okay in every sort of game except a 1x1, and if you sux enough to lose your lgm in a place where your opponent can wall it mabey your lgm deserves to be walled?

In general, I favor allowing people to rejoin after being walled. That way, you can wall Acro (not hard), and when he quits, hopefully you can lock the game before he's able to get back in.

hopefully you have the game already locked

I don't like walling much, I don't attempt it but if people want to wall they sure can go ahead. I think sniping or shooting a lgm is much more enjoyable.

It doesn't matter if I can get back in. CF guarantees an embarrassing loss for himself or his team simply by being there.

I sometimes rejoin opens after I lose my LGM because, well, it's an open. It's a completely different type of play from a tourney or strict.
