I would think that $5k is a lot to some punk kid who just graduated college and whose previously best-paying job would only net about $12k a year, not to mention be about 3x as shitty as the new job. When you don't have a mortgage or car payments or a family, $5k can make you happier than you were living thinly off that $200 a week check eating ramen noodles four nights a week while going to school. It's amazing how one feels when money troubles are non-existant.

And yes Jason, $60k could get you a new car (with loan payments, and a higher per-month premium, etc). Wouldn't be a Escalade on D's but something in the $20k - $30k price range easy.

But I digress and agree; being cross and flaunting that you have that money doesn't mean shit. You can still be a dickbag and make $5k a month, as per our own example here. Now, what you should do is use that money to ensure others around you are comfortable. Take your parents and family out to eat. If they mention they need something small or remedial, you can afford to buy them little things now and then. Give money to non-profits (or a college if you managed to graduate from one). Take trips to visit far-off friends. Treat closer-to-home friends to ballgames and beers.
