Why I am a Bad Ally
Why am I? Because in addition to not having played steadily in a while, I play a totally different style than 90% of the players out there. And because of my stubbornness and their ignorance, we do not mesh well.
The main sticking point is in how to go about winning a game. Most stricts I see these days end up with a tight cluster of pills deciding the outcome. Why should one battle decide the whole war? When I see these situations forming, I usually try to defuse them. I move pills around, pull them back, and generally don't place pills for takes unless I know I have a good chance of getting those neutrals or enemy pills.
It's in this aspect that I somewhat take in the teachings of Sun Tzu. Because I am horrible at pillwars, I generally avoid them at all costs. To be fluid in movement is to adapt easily and counter another player's moves. In WinBolo this means carrying many pills in your tank (which I still drop due to the funky mechanics of WinBolo).
So the way I play is a reactive style that favors focus on resources: LGMs, bases, and trees. I play the placement game to try and force enemies into difficult positions: walled LGMs so they can't build, have to drive a long way for fuel, carpet mine between their trees/bases and front pill line.
Unfortunately, this can be very difficult to do and requires a strong ally to keep any pills you have alive and to also depend on them to stay alive. As we all know, one of the worst things you can do in WinBolo from a strategy point of view is die.
