Cant start games!

Dec 02, 2007 21:05 Cant start games!
Just downloaded winbolo 1.15.
Its no problem to play singleplayer or join other internet games, but I cant start my own games!

When i choose "internet" and "new" and click "ok" it just turns down. or the window dissapears.

Does this happen to anyone else? i guess i have to configure something under the tcp/ip... but what?

thanks for any help!

When you want to host your own game, I would recommend using some sort of WinBoloDS (DS stands for Dedicated Server); either through the command line or by using one of the utilities that people in the community have built. I personally use WinBoloDSFE but I'm not sure where you could find it at the moment.

The other option would be to join one of the IRC servers and have a gamebot host it for you. While in the chat room, you can give the gamebot certain commands and it can create maps for you to join with custom passwords, limited number of players, many different maps, and more.

thanks for the reply!
i found out what was causing the problem.
it was simply that for some reason i cant start games with the built in everard island. when i choose a different map it works fine!

thanks

well first off, no1 will join cause its an unknow server, 2 You would prolli have to make your own server so it can be logged into .net 3rd if ur gonna make your own serevr, log into Mirc and create your own bot..

Something that I think should be added to winbolo is some sort of decicated server that you can start games from your winbolo client. This would make it easier for players that do not want to log into irc, and do not want to deal with configuring their own server.

To answer your question, there could be a number of reason that you can not host a game. One problem that a lot of people run in to is port forwarding ports to their computer on their router.

WinBolo already does that in "Internet (Tracker Search)" mode and there's a few WinBoloDS front-end's that construct a command line game as well.

Make sure to check "Use tracker" on the following screen:

What I mean is have a server (run on .net or somewhere) and you can start game on it FROM your winbolo client.
