DELETED THREADS?

and......it worked very well.....but in some instances like liz last night it makes no sense at all

Sometimes +m can calm down the heated situations in the channel. The people then ranting become pissed not at the person they were arguing with, but the op who put the +m in place.

You have to have faith in the ops to choose the right times of when to +m or just message warnings to offending parties. It would be different if all the colorfulness in #winbolo was intelligent banter, but its not. Its like a bunch of 13-year olds arguing over some assinine fact. I know, because I've been one of them on occasion.

And the reason +m's have been used is because kban's were being "thrown around" in some peoples minds. Then people wouldn't understand why this person got kbanned and would bitch and whine about it. With +m, you tell them to STFU or suffer consequences. By doing this publicly, you don't get the morons that like to become muddled in other's business asking why so-and-so was banned.

Fin.

I guess that is why everyone wants to +v in the channel now?
Jun 21, 2003 03:57
that would probably be a correct assumption. Altho I personaly don't see much use for +m, and personaly haven't ever set it in #winbolo. +m's use just about stops after warez and download channels...which winbolo isen't either.

No.......for once Sticks is right it does calm the situation and it stops the people from bitching about kbans.....and maxx just begs for +v because......well we don't know.....why does he do half the things he does?
Jun 25, 2003 06:12
Damn good question: Why do i begg for the +v?? Not sure, I like the lil "+" next to my name. Me thinx it l00kz kewl. And i just had a thread deleted today. It wuz entitled "bug problem" [so's pplz wood looks at it] and contained the words "STICKS must die!!!!!" followed by a record-setting bunch of  's. This should not have been deleted. Who deleted this??

My guess would be Min. Although I'm not sure I disagree with it. Telling people they must die is hardly a nice thing to say. Infact its mentioned in the terms of use of the site. "You agree not to post or link any offensive and/or illegal material to the forums and/or profile pages."
Jun 25, 2003 07:52
I deleted the thread for the following reasons:

1. Threatening and/or wishing that Sticks would die.
2. Emoticon flooding.
3. Intentionally misleading thread title.

Maxx, you have threatened people and/or wished that they would die on numerous occasions. I strongly believe that the majority of the WinBolo community feels that saying such things is extremely offensive and should not be tolerated.

I believe the simple solution is that maddmaxx should GROW UP and quit acting like a little kid that always has to have his way. If I were sticks I would take some legal action for the threats...but that’s just me. Messaging people on IRC "[15:54] <MaddMaxx> stix must die" and "[19:51] <MaddMaxx> damn stix, kill him" is completely uncalled for, and if you think your going to help yourself to get unbanned by doing this your wrong! I agree with killjoy's statement about how offensive this is.....
Jun 25, 2003 08:14
My apologies to Min for misnaming him above.
Jun 25, 2003 21:49
Stix, i apologize for the threats. duz ne1 have any other suggestions???? (no joke posts plz)

Perhaps we should consider deleting this thread or at least placing it in the "threads gone wild" forum, since the topic seems to have morphed over time from "deleted threads" to "why +m?" to "grow up maxx"... All I can really gather from reading this incoherent mess is that STICKS MUST DIE!!!

Jeez Stimpy. I hope you were saying this in joking, but knowing how serious people here can be I don't know. A healthy community is open to discussion about the policies that govern it, to start deleting threads that attempt to discuss how this community is governed is madness and unhealthy for the community. Deleting this thread will certainly lead to people (including me) to stop using this forum, just as the way ops powers used in #winbolo has lead a number of people to stop using the IRC server, and eventually stop playing winbolo as IRC is tied so much to having good winbolo games.
Jun 27, 2003 03:26
good pointz fi. I HATE the way that #winbolo is governed (until i become an op or maybe when i get permanatly voiced)
Jun 27, 2003 03:27
I was joking about everything except the "STICKS MUST DIE" part. By the way, that last comment was actually a joke too. Jeez stimpy ya say? Jeez Fi! When have you ever known me to be serious about anything? I'm not running for governor and I have no plans on changing the world for the better, so what's there to be serious about? Seriously dude...

Heh, ya I should realize that :). I wouldn't have paid much attention to it except for that other thread that Maddmaxx started a few days ago (the one with a whole bunch of emoticons) in which sticks posted "I motion to delete this thread so we can piss off people"....I thought he was just kidding around...but then a few hours later the thread was indeed deleted.

Thanks for the clarification Stimpy :)

I've been in other discussion forums, and of course I acknowledge the moderator's ultimate say, whether I agree with the rules or not. I understand it's up to them what the rules are and how they are to be enforced.

In some of the more successfully moderated forums I've participated in, there are common features that I think make the forums run smoothly. Usually the moderators post a disclaimer in some easy-to-find place, and that's your up-front warning. Typically they put, in response to offending text, something like "Your message 'Sickboy is a poutine-eating frog' violates the rules of this forum. Do not use racial or ethnic slurs. See the disclaimer. If you repeat this behavior, I will have to ban you for two weeks." If the poster chooses to repeat the offence, a terse message informs the offender of their sentance: "I warned you not to use ethnic slurs (re: "Sickboy and the rest of the escargot-eating-B.O.-stinking-frenchie-femme-boys"). You are now banned for two weeks." (B.T.W., two week bans seem to be good at deterring recidivism, F.W.I.W.)

This may seem like a lot of work for the moderator, but what I find is that enough other people witness the banning, and get the message. I've never seen a moderator getting bogged down by the need to constantly police the forum when using such tactics. It seems like some of the moderators here don't want provide explanations for their actions because it would be too much of a time-sink; I certainly can understand how they might think that, but I would argue that providing brief explanations may save work for them in the long run, since, as this thread clearly demonstrates, not providing explanations leads to having to explain oneself anyway.

Im not sure if i'm posting this in the right place anymore.... I had a thread of mine deleted today (i suspect killjoy). The thread just said that i wanted to be let back into #winbolo on irc.winbolo.com. There were no threats or death threats or "hate speech" of any kind. Who deleted this and why? My guess is killjoy cuz he's part of the big conspiracy. I think that it wuz deleted simply becuz he duzint like it when pplz oppose the ops or when i want to be let back in b-cuz NEMOKRAD banned me.

-Madd Maxx-

P.S: Is this the longest thread ever?

I think that these forum should be run by people who know the game the best... players. Now i agree guys like Sheeps and some of the other moderators play, but i fell that their power has overwhelmed them, and i propose that, we get new moderators and that moderators are to vote on whether or not they should delete a thread. I think that moderators are very important to the website and without them there would be much chaos here, but i do think Min and some of the others are abusing there powers too much
