Etiquette

It is weird to see me of all people write up a post on WinBolo ethics, but lately there have been players ruining games, jumping go, spamming the newswire, ect. In the past six years, I’ve noticed that aggression and rude behavior has sort of been this sub-game within a game, but now with the lower player base it’s become pretty hard to get a good game going because of all that so I thought that a quick reminder about fair etiquette might help in that regard.

Keep in mind this is just my point of view.

Don’t:
* Don’t spawn the same map three times in a row and then quit IRC. It messes up the bot.
* Don’t kill games that you didn’t start, or those that still have players in them.
* Don’t server lock or unlock a game unless you’re in it and are ready to play.
* Don’t join a game and idle for more than 15 minutes.
* Don’t call the game before everyone is ready, and don’t jump go.
* Don’t send the same message more than once in game, unless it’s a hold call.
* Don’t feed the trolls.
* Don’t assume your allies value your feedback, or are able to recover your quad the instant you lose it.
* Don’t assume anyone is willing to follow your lead.
* Don’t cheat or hack the game into giving you some weird advantage.
* Don’t expect some formal appeal process once you’re banned from a bot or IRC. Nobody cares.

Do:
* Do stop playing when someone calls hold.
* Do call a hold when encountering a bug, and wait until everyone agrees to resume the game.
* Do honor the majority opinion. If two or more people want you to leave, quit the game.
* Do be nice to Siren.

That’s all I have from the top of my head. Good suggestions will be added to this list and you can simply point new players and rule breakers to the following URL when in a game: http://bit.ly/i51qw

Reminds me of an old Michael Rosen poem I learnt way back in the ice age:

We do not.

Adding some of Sticks' older stuff to the post above.
