Early Loser
The Early Starter
We have all experienced the annoyances of the early starter. You're sitting in a game, waiting for even teams when all of a sudden a newer player joins and start capturing bases or prefarming. Many times it is just a case of the new guy not knowing the rules, but other times it gets extra frustrating when a vet comes in and destroys the game, just for the fun of it. Unfortunately this practice has become embedded within the game so deeply that there is always a fifty-percent chance every game that you will regret even opening WinBolo. Even more depressing is a new type of player that I've recently had the displeasure of playing, described below.
The Early Loser

In the beginning, it is hard to tell the difference between the early starter and the early loser, as both types of players exhibit signs of impatience and ineptitude; however as the early starter tends to quit the game after becoming subjected to NewsWire insults, the early loser feels no remorse and can continue their nonsense unaware of the friction their presence may be causing.

Once becoming overwhelmed with the task of merely playing the game, the early loser will become confused and angry, as indicated in the example screenshot below (taken from a real game). When defeated by their own weakness, this player actually lost their sense of time and began to question the ethics of the opposition, who seemingly were using optimal, automated routines to influence the game play in their favor. Perhaps frightened, the early loser lashes out.

At this point, the early loser will usually site idle for minutes at a time, searching the web for a brain or borg in an obvious attempt at 'leveling the playing field'. After installing a random WinBolo brain, the loser may find themselves in the following situation:

Logical reasoning is never executed by the early loser, and so a quick snap-judgment is placed on the opposing player and the ruined game is quickly over. A mutual agreement that the above was a 'good game' is never mentioned.

In closing, I suggest we start using passwords on all of the game bots, and perhaps start banning IP ranges for those players that are already blacklisted as early starters and losers. I should note that none of this is directed at any particular player, and is actually a post that I have thought about releasing publicly for a few years.
