Strict team game tips

Apr 09, 2010 21:24 Strict team game tips
Ok so lately a lot of retarded crap has been going on in strict team games and I wanted to post up some important pointers that all players should follow. This may have been done before, but obviously people are not paying attention so I want to put it up again:

1) Lock the damn game

When you join the game and there is enough players to have teams, LOCK THE FUGGING GAME. Nothing is worse than a player not locking, having a retard scrub join in and either lag the shit out of the game or worse, start driving on the map and ruining the game in progress.

2) Don't join and idle

This is a very irritating thing. People join, are ready to play, and one dumb $hit is off jacking off or whatever, and people cant play. If you are going to idle, lock the game and make it clear to the people who are in the game that you are going to be idle, and preferably tell them for how long. Like 5 min etc.

3) Don't kill your allies lgm

Your allies lgm should be treated as importantly as your own lgm (sometimes more). If you know that shooting will cause it to die, DONT SHOOT. If your ally is sending in an lgm, dont drive up to an enemy pill and get the shots to hit it. And if an lgm lands in your area, and you don't know who it might be your allies, DONT SHOOT IT unless you are sure!

*EDIT*

While most of the time you really should avoid killing your allies lgm, there are times when the gain from sacrificing it is greater than the loss of losing it. For example, if killing an enemy pill or sniping their lgm on a plant or rebuild puts your allies lgm at risk, but succeeding will result in you having a significant lead in the game, then sometimes it is worth risking it. Keep in mind though that such situations are the exception, not the norm. The importance of pills depend greatly on the game state, and the value of your allies lgm depends largely on the capability of that particular allies ability to use it and whether other people on the team have lgm. In another words, the values are variable. Generally, if you are a good player, you will have a good feel for these values and know when it is right to put an allies lgm at risk.

Again, I want to stress that risking your team mates lgm is the exception, not the norm!

4) If you don't know what you are doing, don't move pills

First of all, players need to come to a realization that they are a noob. If you are constantly put on the 4 side on a 7 man handicap game, it is because you are a noob. Accept it. So if you are a noob, that means you cant out pill war a good player. So don't bother. Avoid it unless necessary. Your good allies will take the initiative and it is important that you support them, but generally, don't move pills into an offensive position unless you are sure of what you are doing. And ESPECIALLY don't do it if you are losing! Spiking with your last pills when you are down to one quad is the definition of USELESS RETARD

5) Avoid using blocks and mines in your own territory

Realize that you are not the only person who is driving around in your territory. Every rubble that is in your area will slow down your whole team. Use them with great discretion.

6) Do not waste resources

When your bases are running low on ammo, or there are few trees left, don't take more than you need. Wasting resources also means taking a bunch of them then dying. The reason for this should be obvious.

7) If you join a game in progress, leave

If the game has already started and you join, don't sit around begging them to let you ally, or spam them with ally requests. ESPECIALLY do not drive onto the map. If someone asks you to leave, LEAVE promptly. Do not sit there and say you will watch. They do not want you to watch, if they wanted you to watch they would not tell you to leave. You may think it doesn't matter, but it does. It matters because it effects tree regrowth rate, base refuel rate and the server lag. Not leaving will get you banned, and hated by everyone.

8.) Double teaming on a pill is better than decoying

So many times I see a retard build like 5 blocks and sit behind it and then wait for someone to shoot so they can decoy the pill fire. This is abysmally terrible strategy. If 2 tanks are shooting a pill, you don't even need 1 block if you guys have armor. It is faster and doesn't leave rubble and doesn't risk your lgm. If enemy tanks are present, using pills is acceptable but otherwise, just freaking shoot it. This brings me to my next point.

9) Don't waste time. Always be doing something effective

Don't sit there and message allies to double team and just wait. Don't drive around in circles cuz you don't know what to do. There is ALWAYS something that you can be doing that is good. Doing nothing is bad. Whether it be building roads on your side to help for later, or back raping, always do something. The exception to this is manning a pill line, but even then, it is very rare for it to be a good thing just sitting behind pills waiting to fix them or whatever. You can watch a pill line while making roads and hardlining pills or weakening bases.

10) This is a team game. Use team work. Ie communication and support

Team work is essential to winning. 2 good players, so matter how good they are individually, will fail to 2 slightly worse players if the worse players have very good team work. This means switching sides if your ally loses lgm, or knowing when to support and when to lead. Keeping track of whether your allies need help or have lgm. Communicating can be done in messages but if you want to double team a pill, firing one shot in its direction while your ally is there is usually better and faster. Efficiency is key. If you are using teamspeak, don't waste the airwaves talking about garbage that doesn't matter or nobody cares about. Be short and to the point. Also, if there is dead pills, and you have an ally that is either better at using pills or has an lgm and you don't, do not take all the pills. Let your team mate take it

OK so if you noobs follow these things, games will be a lot better and you will likely win more. So just do it K?

Every one of these items is good advice from the #1 ranked player.

Unfortunately, some of the items paint a nasty picture of your concept of team courtesy. I wouldn't ally you under any circumstances because I frequently make mistakes. Sometimes I accidentally shoot my ally's builder. I'm terribly sorry when it happens, but I confess I've done it on occasion. Sometimes I build blocks for a decoy when ammo is scarce and I can't afford to take too many hits. That's now unnacceptable behaviour, I guess. There are times when my tank idles because I'm confused as to what to do next. Apparently I'm retarded.

Nah, I'll play on the less-skilled team and just have fun.

There are a lot of earnest, clumsy people who love this game - like me. Try to be kind when they're your ally.

Heh, some of the things underdog posted are simply his opinion. Other things he posted are quite relevant. I mean, getting your allies lgm killed happens to everyone once in awhile, accidents happen, but I think his point is that if certain behavior is avoided, then it becomes much less likely to occur.

Min, it's the tone of UD's post that irks me. Every one of his points has merit - some more so than others - but they're all mixed up with epithets like 'retard.'

I think we're in agreement that noobs should be nurtured and encouraged, not demeaned.

I agree for the most part for sure. However, occasionally we get a an exception to that rule, I could name a few of them who've come and gone over the years.

Provided the rules are followed, i dont know who anyone thinks they are, when they attempt to impose on the how someone else plays the game. Not to discredit UD's post, it will help the community greatly is everyone read it, but there is more to this than simply telling people how to be allies, or good players. if someone plays for a different reason than to be competetively good, it almost sounds like some out of order imposition to order them around, heh, quite frankly, back when i started, i just didnt fancy playing with better players, because, in my mind, some were dicks, and it only takes one to ruin a game. Im glad i stuck around, others however, may not. Im not really bothered if anyone disagrees with me out of some noob rage, becuase frankly, the knowledge that i wont be persuaded by anything other than reason is enough for me

Making mistakes is understandable. Hey, I make mistakes. Everyone does. The point of my tips was to show people what to do and not to do to avoid mistakes. If you don't care about making mistakes and do not want to improve your play, hey, that's your perogative and these tips are not for you.

Hey if I didn't care about nurturing the noobs I would not post tips on how to help them would I?

I just say it as it is. As I see it, ppl that make retarded moves are retards, people who play like noobs are noobs. If my tone upsets you, I am sorry, that is not my intent, but I will not stop speaking my mind or my unfiltered opinion.

The tips are, obviously, for people that want pointers on how to improve their play. And by improve, I mean, be able to win with better skill, ie, be competitive.

Sure, of course people play for other reasons. If you would like to start a post about these other reasons, about the comraderie of bolo players, be my guest, but this particular post was pointers on how to improve your play to be competitive, and if you do not seek to better your play then you are not the target audience.

pah! fine then. But i still disagree with number 3

jinx i added a note regarding point 3
