Used to play on the Mac back in the early 90s, just got the WinBolo client and dang, does it bring back memories!
I've played a couple games and it feels just like the version I used to play, and it sure is fun. I think the folks on net play were nicer back in the old days (I was trying the game out a little earlier and some guy named 'rider' told me how much I sucked after I thanked him for a good game, guess I need lots of practice) but it might just be nostalgia.
I've got a couple of kids that should be joining too, but I'll make sure to teach them proper Bolo etiquette. My boys are good with twitch-reflex games, here's hoping they'll learn a little about tactics too. :D

oh and er.... take no notice of rider... he also sucks :). there are players like him who like to put others down and who are just in general real douchebags but they are few and far between. most people will welcome you into winbolo with open arms and minds.
Be sure to read the rules on the homepage as repeat offenders can and do get banned from the servers.

I've been getting better, I actually managed to get a base with a bunch of pillboxes going last night! Got some good kills, so progress. Some day, I'll advance from terrible to merely bad, practice practice practice! :D
Rider showed up again and helped me improve. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have known that 'hidden mines are for fags' among other things, so I treasure his contribution to my education. :P
Well, hidden mines are a server setting; it's not something that the player can control.
Most people complain about use of mines in either opens or stricts. I feel like I'm the only proponent of them nowadays.
Me and min also have no problem with mines and actively use them sometimes as part of the game.

Ya, I regularly use mines. Depends on the situation though. If you decide you'd like some assistance with improving your bolo abilities, join irc and ask for some help from some of the older players. Just try to ignore the morons.

to me there is a difference between shitting mines and dropping 3 or 4 because your getting chased/trying to kill someone with no ammo.
jinx, simple answer: mine away....when u want and wherever you want.
If people complain, the only two words you need to say are: "hard cheese".....or maybe "smelly kilt" in your case ;)
I of course mean throwing out between 3 and 7 or so, to deter/defend. Noone can deny that a significant number of players would whine their asses off at something like that. I dont want to deviate from the social norm of things like this, i think it's always best to stick with the crowd on sensitive issues, when in my case, im not that bothered either way. Thats what i mean; im a sheep.
