This particular thread was created because Coldfinger never bothered to correctly read the thread this one is referencing. He was under the impression that chaps was still banned and thus felt the need to defend his friend.

The threads pointing out who has been banned are for a few reasons, one, to notify people that should they be having issues joining a particular gamebot, its not because the game is broken, its because their access has been removed. There is currently no way to notify people of this in the game client itself. There is however other reasons, such as publicly announcing people's errors in judgment which for some people also includes a certain amount of guilt/shame, it also publicly shows that yes, the rules are being enforced so, behave. Of course, some people just don't give a damn. There is a few other reasons also. But that's a short summary.

Attacking and ridiculing others tends to come with the territory in online gaming unfortunately, people forget when they are on the internet that there is someone on the other end reading what they say.

This is something which can't be addressed unless we have a player base which doesnt include rude people. No (or very few) internet communities have this. Its probably much easier to not bother questioning this issue at all, as long as any garden-variety-jerk can access the internet. Besides, I doubt any bolo player comes off the same in real life as they do online, when all they are facing in a game is a piece of text attached to a tank, in comparison to working life there are much less repercussions. I like this.
