After I switched to a new internet carrier, I am unable to join a game. Could anyone help me with this? Thanks, Catosa
I actually sometimes could join a game, but most of the time I could not. Previously I used cable, but now I changed to fiber optics. Does anyone know fiber optics is slower or faster than cable?
Thanks.
We can't really help you since it's a connection problem and not a winbolo problem. You would need to call the support of your provider.
Technically I don't know the real difference between fiber and cable, but friends that have it say the providers cap fibers upload speed for some reason which could explain why you're not able to join games.
Can you run and paste a trace for some of the gamebots?

i also switched to fibre optic not long ago and to be honest its shit! im supposably gettin 40 meg download and 10 meg upload speeds but id say i drop from games and resync more than when i was on normal 20 meg speed. i dont know much about the internet and connections and all that so that may not even be the problem but i cant say ive ever had any trouble joining games on fibre?
I know a thing or two about "fiber" and you should only claim you have it if it's run all the way to your house a la Verizon FIOS. Most other providers who claim fiber mean it's just run to a junction box or something and not all the way to your home. Regardless, the delivery technology has nothing to do with the quality of service you're getting. If your ISP is shit, it's shit no matter what type of connection you got. Go to www.dslreports.com and read reviews on your ISP and check the ISP specific forum.
Nemo,
your link is helpful. My ISP is centurylink. The comments on centurylinks were not very good.
Centrury link told me that a port needs to be open in my modom, with a fee. I was supprized to here that because they should solve all my problems in using their service.
Sometimes I was able to join a game. I think the speed was not great. Most of time I failed to join a game and gave me an error message.
They told me that their game port is usually closed. From this I believe that they set up my modom not for playing game.
Again, thanks.

hes english/american? wow
Nemo,
I checked Centurylink from the website you recommended. I found that the company has about 15 unhappy posts; 15 mixed; and 15 happy posts.
My friend recommended me epb fiber optic. I checked epb for the website and found 8 happy posts; 0 mixed and 0 unhappy. I think usually if a customer is happy, he or she will not try to post something to express his or her feeling. Therefore, I believe epb is a good ISP. epb offers minimum 30 Mbps speed at $61/mo, which is very good. But it turned out epb does not offer service in my neighborhood.
Later I found several companies have fiber optic, such as Verizon, ATT, and so on. But only Centurylink services our area. The same thing is true for cable high speed internet. Only Comcast offers service in my area.
So, I decided to go back to Comcast cable high speed internet. For the first time I learnt that the cable high speed internet previously I had had speed of 12 Mbps. Compared to Centurylink fiber optic at 10Mbps which is the max speed they offer, it makes no sense to switch to Centurylik at all.
Comcast cable offers 14Mbps with $52/mo; 22 Mbps with $62/mo and so on. I chose 22 Mbps. Once installed the cable high speed internet, I immediately can join Winbolo games. I tested the actual speed and found the download speed is 35 Mbps and upload 10 Mbps.
Nemo, thanks for your help.
Catosa
well i also get around 37mbps download and 10 mbps upload from a fibre optic connection but i still resync like crazy and drop from games when i kill an lgm :/
before i had this package i was only getting upto 10 mbps speed and i actually think it performed better. i cant ever remember dropping from a game. so maybe its nothing to do with the speed of your connection i dont know.
its probably more to do with ping im guessing. ive just checked mine on a minbot game and its between 180 and 220. which is actually good for me.
would love to know how to lower it! apart from moving closer to the server i really dont know. can anyone suggest anything in a way i might understand as im a bit computer dumb :D
No problem boro/foxx/dates/rat/catosa!
Kaos, speed (bandwidth) has nothing to do with your latency/time to the server so there is nothing you can do besides move closer.
