If you take a look at the top strict tournament player rankings, it only shows the people who are above the starting point (1600) and then everyone who is sitting at 1600 from not playing a 1x1. This could disservice those who have actually played a 1x1 ranked game but do not have enough points to be above 1600. Anyways, who wants to see a bunch of people sitting at 1600 for the last 85 spots on the list? Is there anyway to prevent from showing all those players? Perhaps put in an idle time, where if you won't play at least 1 ranked game every X amount of days, your score is not shown on the list.
What about you don't show up in the rankings until you have won/lost atleast one game?
That seems reasonable enough to me. You might get a bunch of 1650's from all the 1600's playing each other though, but we can worry about that when/if it happens.
Personally I don't like the idea of removing the 1600 players from the page, because I use it to see a list of all players. If a 'Player List' link or something similar were added (preferably to the main) page I could live with it.
However I like this solution better: What about an unranked status? Their rank internally would of course remain 1600. Something like this:
...
11 Smeagol 1650
11 Vet 1650
12 peoples alliance 1615
13 LRL 1610
unranked Killjoy 1600
unranked Canuck 1600
unranked Andrew 1600
...

Maybe if we added "last matchup date" or the like we could see by that who is or isn't playing. That might help those who are looking for someone to challenge and don't wanna waste time "calling out" idlers. It may also give people squatting on what some consider undeserved rankings an incentive to play more, since people can see when they last played and taunt their inactivity. More winbolo good!
Perhaps another, more drastic option would be to take people off the rating list if they haven't played in a certain time, maybe a month or so, and either reset their ranking or slowly dock points until they play again, another good incentive to keep boloing!
Coupla new ideas for the wish list while I'm here, too. Since the mechanics are in place for team ratings but few team games are happening, a nice enhancement to .net would be the ability to create ibl-style tournaments periodically. We'd need somewhere for participants to check in each scheduled league nite and then have it automatically create matchups by identifying .net teams with 2+ players present and matching teams up by ratings (if a team has more than 2, they'll have to decide themselves who does/doesn't play or just round robin within the team). I think this would be useful because, as we can see by the # of team games completed, it's difficult to randomly assemble registered teams for head-to-head competition.
Also, for the 1x1'ers, I think periodic bracketed elimination tournaments would be really cool and definitely in the upcoming spirit of March Madness! (That's the NCAA basketball tourney for you outta towners.)
kind of adding to whats been said, but i personally would LOVE to see a log of all the games played for each player. or at least the ability to save games in their profile. so people can see who they have played when, and who won
dates for when games were played would definately rock
i am against the points dropping over time though. instead, maybe after a certain period of inactivity, that player sinpley gets greyed out, or put in italics for "inactive"?
