LAN games

Sep 02, 2003 07:09 LAN games
after not playing this game for 8 years since my highschool years, I am now the Network Administrator and would like to play WinBolo on my LAN. I run WinBolo and select 'Local Network', I then get another user to go to 'Local Network' and select 'Refresh'. The IP address of my PC comes up but then this message:

The was no response from the game you tried to contact.
This usually means 1 of 3 things:
1. You have the address and port fields incorrect
2. You are behind some kind of firewall preventing UDP access.
3. Check that your version of WinBolo is the same as the game

I am running WinBolo v1.1.3

thanks, would LOVE to get back into this game...I used to play it against friends on the old Apple Mac Classic II's during class!

I tried this and I received some weird IP address and a port of 27775

I believe this is a bug that was originally in the 1.11 release

You should be able to join by address, enter the hosting computers IP address and use port 27500

Never played Winbolo on a LAN, but Mac Bolo used to be click on a computer name and you're there.
How did you try to join the game?
If the game is already started, click Join By Address, enter the machine's IP (or machine name) and set the port to 27500.

I can start, and join a game in LAN mode without being connected to the internet. I put in IP 127.0.0.1

Let me know if this helps

Yeah, anyone should be able to do that as 127.0.0.1 refers to your own computer, aka HOST. It's useful for testing out or running bunches of bots but not that many people do that anymore.

Nice, we are always looking for new players. You should let them play on the net, we can bring them out of that boring stage.

that sounds killer....I am running Novell BorderManager as our Proxy/Firewall....what settings do i need to adjust in order for them to get out...

I don't know much about that software. Just to use winbolo to join a game (as a client), UDP packets need to be allowed to pass through the proxy/firewall freely. If they whish to host a game a port forwarded to the hosting machine would be needed (standard port 27500) you can always do a netstat if you need more port information.
