WinBolo 2.2.0b Release Notes

GIF Tools

  • Make a GIF window: recording mode now opens its own movable window with a zoomed timeline, a Preview clip button and the length control, instead of squeezing the controls into the replay's transport row. GIFs can now be up to 30 seconds long.
  • GIF gallery groups and Delete: the gallery sorts clips under This game and Earlier games, shows each file's path as a link, and has a Delete button. Save to disk is gone because the file is already on disk.
  • Sharper tank names: names in a GIF are now drawn at the size the screen shows them, so they are no longer small and blocky when the GIF is enlarged.
  • GIF previews use far less memory: playing a clip in the gallery now uses significantly less memory, and long or 2x clips play at full size instead of being shrunk or refused as too large.

Log Viewer

  • GIFs from the Log Viewer: the Log Viewer has the same recording mode and Clips window as the after-game replay, and its play and pause buttons are now one button.
  • Recording helpers: a -size WxH option opens the viewer at an exact pixel size, and Shift with a drag draws a fading yellow line on the overview map to point something out.
  • Finer playback control: a 0.75x speed was added, Ctrl with , or . jumps one second, and Shift with a drag of the replay bar moves one tick at a time.
  • WinBolo.net log search: searching for a map or player name with a space no longer fails on Windows and Linux, and Enter in the Player or Map box runs the search.

Lobby Map Chooser

  • Picks are no longer dropped: a map pick or Use This Map made while a remote server was still loading the previous pick used to do nothing while the chooser showed the map as picked. It is now held and sent once the server is ready.
  • Waiting for server: the chooser greys its lists and buttons with a Waiting for server note while the server is loading a pick or a map is uploading. A WinBolo.net download that finishes during the wait is applied when it ends.
  • Cancelling an upload: Cancel, Revert and Close are greyed while a local map is still uploading. Cancelling then could start the round on the map the host had backed out of.

Tutorial and Scenarios

  • Tutorial messages pause the game: the game now waits while a Tutorial message is open, and the message can be dragged by its title bar.
  • Scenario panel placement: a scenario panel the player has never moved now opens at the top-left of the game view at a readable size, with its move bar above the text instead of over the first row.
  • Scenario Text window: the window no longer sits empty on the game view all round. It appears when a scenario shows a line, stays for five seconds after the last one, and opens beside the scenario panel with no dark backing.

Dialogs and Keyboard

  • Focus outline: the blue outline now shows only after a key or controller press, and a mouse click hides it. It no longer appears on a button just clicked or in a dialog that has only just opened.
  • No surprise presses: while the outline is hidden, the first press of Enter, Space, Tab or an arrow key only shows it, and the next press acts. A message box's OK still takes the first Enter.
  • Tab from a greyed-out button: Tab now moves on from a disabled button, and focuses the first item when nothing has focus.
  • Lobby start list: long rows no longer draw past the list edge over the map. A cut row shows its full text in a tooltip.

Mac

  • Cmd+Q works everywhere: Cmd+Q and the menu's Quit now quit from the lobby and the menus after a game, instead of doing nothing and then closing the application later.
  • Clearer crash reports: a crash caused by a macOS error now names that error in the report instead of only saying SIGABRT: Abort.
