Map Collections

Nov 03, 2003 13:49 Map Collections
WinBolo.net now supports map collections. Simply put this allows players to upload multiple maps into their accounts and make them available to everyone else.

To create a map collection login and goto your profile. At the bottom of the page you will find a create map collection button. Press it to create a collection. After creating a collection you will be able to browse the map collection and add maps and folders into your own map collection. Please only upload maps that you have created or modified, this will save on resources. Also note that at this stage maps can not be deleted!

Features still to be implemted:

1. Map Information page, which shows the map name, comment, number of pillboxes, bases and starts.
2. Comments and ratings on the uploaded maps.
3. Uploading of all the maps from the OBHP map archive.

I'm heading overseas again for a day or two but will hopefully get these done in the near furture.

(Note my profile has some classic popular maps loaded for example. Please don't follow my bad example and load maps you did not author!)

Feedback and other suggestions gladly welcomed! (Including problems!)

Oh and ofcourse maybe a nicer looking page without so many tables.

That looks great Elvis.

I just loaded up every single map I've ever made and released (all one of it). :)

And also a way to replace the current map in your profile. Maybe a way to say this map in my collection is my featured map and have it display in your profile rather then having to reupload it.

And in case you are wondering if that perfect map name has already been taken, you can check the current list on sheepbot at:

http://www.sheeps.winbolo.us/maps.txt (64Kb)

or type "sheepbot maplist" to sheepbot on irc, for a DCC of the most updated list.

A few suggestions:

1) Any way to delete maps from your collection?
2) What about a mass selection upload instead of having to upload one at a time for us more prolific authors?
3) Better display options such as thumbnail or just text-based listing of available maps in a directory.

niiiice elvis! Thank you!

wow, this is cool...one prob...why dont the comments show up?
Nov 04, 2003 02:34
oh..hehe...just saw the thing saying comments will be shown. It should also be made so maps with same names that are uploaded onto the profile should atomatically (the first ones) be deleted. ill be happy when we are able to delete maps, cuz right now i have 2 maps that are fucked up versions of the real ones :(

btw, its also cool that masp get rated; EVERYONE ADD MY MAPS TO YOUR AUTO SPAWN SERVERS AND STUFF!

The date problem has been fixed and the bolo map archive is being uploaded now. (About an hour to go for the 4000 maps)

As mentioned in the news post support for reviews/ratings/comments has been added. The rating stars also appear on the map listings if any ratings have been made against the map. Deletions of maps has also been added. Let me know if you run into any problems.

Still on the todo list are searching options (by name, newest submitted, highest rated etc) as well as integrating the map collection with the map in the players profile.

Also some of the early map comments were lost so if yours isn't showing you may need to reupload your map. Sorry!

Nice work Elvis, you are a machine! And I mean that in a good way, not like in the Matrix.

Elvis: Indeed nice job on the additions.

Some people have created a "profile" for themselves on the map collection out of curiosity but have not uploaded any maps. Instead of opening a bunch of ppl's folder and finding no maps in it, is it possible to visually show whether someone has maps or not in their folder? Perhaps a number next to their name to indicate how many maps they've uploaded?
Nov 10, 2003 22:51
BTW, in my suggestion above, for the number of maps uploaded to be displayed next to the name, I mean on the main map collection so we can easily skip all those ppl who have a "0" next to their name.

Yes, fi, or go a step further and make it impossible for those without maps to create a map collection profile unless they have at least one map to upload.

That'd be pretty easy to accomplish. For each subfolder the number of maps and folders on the next level down could be displayed. It will not be possible to give a total of the number of maps and subfolders (recursively) from your current folder.

However this could be done at the top of each players collection. This player has "X maps and Y folders in their collection."

But then you'd end up with having one map in each players top level folder straight away. If they were setting up their collection with multiple folder levels they would have to reupload them.
