Why Chew Toy 3 is so Popular
Chew Toy 3 remains, and probably will remain, the most-played map in WinBolo. A few theories surround why this may be the case.
One, think about what players were playing when you were brought into the IRC community. "East map chew" or "Minbot map chew" were some of the most commonly uttered phrases in #winbolo. Chances are, if you saw someone doing this and played on maps that someone else created, you'd also do the same once you became accustomed to mapping maps. Insufficient knowledge of the map library or a player's specialization in one map could also attribute to this.
Another and more likely reason is that Chew Toy 3 is easy and fun to play while also offering a wide range of deployable tactics. Chew Toy 3 leaves options open during almost any stage of the game to either the defensive or offensive-minded player.
For instance, at the start you can..
1) Vulture and spike
2) Take a quick pill from your quad and hyper-spike
3) Rape bases (not so easily accomplished in 1.13 compared to 1.08)
When things start to get going more options become available...
1) Set up a pillwall and war to the death
2) Flank that pillwall due to the expansive space available on CT3
3) Back-spike in enemy territory
4) Mine your enemy's region
To finish off your opponent...
1) Deforest
2) Mine your enemy's region some more
3) Back-spike their only safe-zone of retreat
I'm sure there's many more tactical ways to play Chew Toy 3 but it still holds true that it's a great map to play because of how many ways you can play and end the game on this map.
