Since some of the old time bolo players want a nearly exact clone of MacBolo; I was wondering how much playing time people had on MacBolo before playing Winbolo.
Does it really mean that much to the players if WinBolo was nearly a carbon copy?
I played no more than 20 games on MacBolo, so I really don't know what the differences are, other than reading about them.
I first played (mac)Bolo ~8 years ago. I remember playing it rather religiously, and for nostalgia sake, I'd like to see it be a carbon copy. But it's been so long since I've actually played it (haven't owned a Mac is years. And for a time I gave up on a PC version of Bolo, every "pc/winBolo" out there was vaporware at the time) that I wouldn't notice even if it was the same.
i played like 60 macbolo games..........and that number is going up cuz were getting it back on the school comps....rok ON!!!! W00000T......thanks to ma friend grim_black ......he asked the computer dude teacher person :D
see the thing is wonka, winbolo's game balance is incorrect, were as macbolo's game balance was not. thats the main problem. the speed of pills, how many bullets they shoot, how quickly bases refuel, how easy it is to rape, etc allows for alot of different things to occur in macbolo, and all the different types of play could be used. In winbolo on the other hand, your pretty much stuck with pillwaring.

Pretty sure Elvis' goal from the start was to make Winbolo a Bolo clone.
But the basics of what makes bolo great was not lost in the creation of Winbolo. You still must employ a great deal of strategy, timing, a wide array of tactics, and concentration to be a top player. I have no problems with the current version and I don't remember a damn thing about macbolo anyway. (Other than sometimes the builder would say just (OOH) instead of (OOH THEY GOT ME) if he was killed in heavy action).
I played for a few years on mac, and now a few years on pc.
I think there are areas that can be improved to make the game more consistent with the good elements of bolo, but I don't think that has to hold up progress of winbolo. I don't think we should be attempting to be *just like* a game that hasn't been updated in a decade, it has set the bar for some things, but there are bound to be differences since winbolo actually gets updates...what a thought.
So maybe everything on that webpage list is necessary, but a balance is needed, there is more new blood in winbolo then there are old timers. I think wbn is a whole lot better addition then sliding tanks.
macbolo just FEELS different from winbolo. the weirdest thing is how the bullets hit your tank (and how you cant turn while theyre hitting u (very annoying))
