MM - you were banned from sb because I got three reports from reliable sources that you were using the speed hack. You have admitted using hacks in opens and I have stated that use on sb would lead to ban. In general, anyone who is baned gets another chance once they realize their mistake and says they won't do it again (ask Dz about this policy).

And what have you done in response? Nice name calling of me and spamming of sb to screw over the entire community, thats a nice message. You have shown me what you are made of, and it will be a cold day in hell when I let you back on sb games. So I can judge you on first-hand experience now, and you are ignored from sb to boot.

I also got a few reports about Masamune, and he is also banned. He is free to talk to me and explain what happened and just say sorry, I have no problem letting him back in if he doesn't do it again.

But thanks for the comic relief.

I'm somewhat offended by the suggestion that sheepsbot's inability to host games could hurt the "entire community" ... someones getting a big head ... but other than that ... well said sheeps, well said.

Good point, the hurt could be pretty limited, but activily trying to take out any service in my opinion hurts the community, even in a limited way. "Entire" could easily be removed from that one, especially with the other bots like pawnybot being used nicely.

I quite agree, why do they care if someone hacked? It's not like it harms their servers.

I am fairly certain that we can all agree on one thing: Madd Maxx is a fuck. Perhaps he cheats and perhaps he doesn't, but there is more than ample evidence that he is a fuck, and that's reason enough for me if he gets banned. Maxx, my advice to you is to stop being a fuck.

Its all very well being opinionated, nothing wrong with that but can't you see you go to far by the situation you're in now? I'm not saying the main reason for the bans isn't down to hacking but if you had been a little more friendly with people before all this this may not have been blown out if proportion like it now has. Three pages into the thread and instead of having resolved anything, it's getting worse.

Not trying to be patronising here but maybe start thinking about what you're doing and wehter or not you want to continue moving in these circles in the ways you have been.

Indeed, I second your opinion on removing maddmaxx's access from your bot. In case that matters. Access to bots of that nature is a privilege, not a right. privilege should be earned.

All you guys running servers: my advice is just to ignore threads like this in the future. As Min said, your server is your computer, and the only reason to allow access to it is as a service to others. Anyone who creates a forum (be it an IRC channel, a server, or indeed a newsgroup) is entitled to disallow access to it as he pleases. This isn't government oppression, and no one's rights are being violated -- the TOS for the forum determines the privileges relating to accessing it, unless and until the owner of the forum changes his mind.

Nothing good ever comes of threads where some miscreant whines about being treated unfairly. That assumes winbolo players have a right to be treated fairly with regard to accessing things that don't belong to them, which is not true. Moreover, if you take the time to try to justify yourself to the annoying pissants, it implies that there's some standard you're trying to apply fairly. I'd advise all the server owners to adopt a TOS that says, in its entirety, "Shut up."

on another note, exactly one of those pissant whining bitching type threads is one of the main reasons I left #winbolo 8 or 9 months ago. and I feel that what you've said applies that that thread as well. If this was my forum, I'd delete any whining bitching threads of this nature that reared their ugly heads .... any threads relating to banning, deletion of posts, etc would be marked for deletion the instant I saw them. In my mind, the difference between the IRC channel (.com), winbolo.net, and winbolo.com, on the one hand, and the servers, on the other, is that the former group is officially related to winbolo. Conversely, the servers are things people run partly for their own amusement, and partly as a favor to others. Thus, for me, the moderation discussion hinged critically on the use of official power by those who have it -- moderaters on .net are in some sense in charge of acting in the public good, where "the public good" is defined as the long-term health of the game itself. Servers are very different, because in my mind there's no difference between (1) Player A refusing to play with Player B, and (2) Player A disallowing Player B to use Player A's server. It's more an off-the-record "you're an annoying brat" statement than an official condemnation. It makes more sense to have discussions about use of official power than to have what amount to debates about whether one player should like another one.

Of course, that's just my perspective. Others' may differ.

Maxx, despite how you act, I'm convinced you're actually a pretty bright guy. In my mind, that gives you even less of an excuse to act like an idiot, because it's intentional and designed only to annoy poeple. I'd be willing to bet that if Sev used the same hack you did, he wouldn't have been banned. Unfair? Maybe. But it's ultimately your own fault for making everyone look for any excuse to get rid of you. You're perfectly capable of acting like a normal person when you want to. Because I'm not around all the time these days, I delegate to sheeps and lrl the ability to unban him, as well as the authority to expand the ban if/when he pops up on another IP. But I'm not going to unban him -- I first banned him for something similar over the summer, and he jumped it -- and I encourage them not to either.

And btw, I'm also not going to read any post discussing whether this is fair. In the words of Val Kilmer, "It's a moral imperative."
