LGM Respawn Algorithm

Dec 29, 2003 09:15 LGM Respawn Algorithm
Elvis, can you tell me how the lgm respawn location is contrived? I know it's supposed to be random, but for some it seems more random than others. Thanks.

perhaps the randomness is also random.

Your transcendent idiocy befuddles me, Maxx.

Elvis, please reply to me at your leisure, then promptly afterward please ban Maxx from winbolo.net once and for all. He is the human equivalent of a West Nile-infected crow cawing on our collective windowsill at 5 AM each morning, the sole difference being that crows eventually migrate south to afford us some respite whereas Maxx is a recurring nitemare beyond anything Hitchcock could conjure.

Maxx, feel free to NOT reply to a post for once in your despicable existence, you insolent fleeb.

what i wanna know is how tank respawning works.........i read something in a bolo article saying you dont often respawn on spiked corners (your own or your enemie's)

b4 then i thought it was random.

stimpy: be it that I hold severe disdain for our neo-Nazi boloteer (MM)
I celebrate your second post in this thread

As for Q: the respawn sites in maps are pre-determined according to the "cartographer's" whim. As for the calibration of when each of these sites is used in a game, well, I'm about as clueless on this issue as Madd is on most affairs (hehe)
though through my ignorance of this question, it tends to happen that if you die in a corner that you are "spawned" in, you tend to be resurrected in that site
Good luck finding the real answer... the truth is out there...

To build on Stimpy's question, why does it regularly happen that you can get 5 or more consecutive respawns in the same place? This must be a game flaw. More than 2 consecutive respawns in the same place is too much. (and don't tell me 'just don't die', either , grrrrr)
Dec 31, 2003 02:31
If you died less you wouldn't see that its 5 in a row

hehe :D

That would probably be from the Version History file included in the install of winbolo:

* By popular demand Bolo like starts allocation are now implemented. WinBolo trys to avoid starting you near tanks and enemy pillboxes. From the Bolo Version History document: "Improved start position allocation for maps with very few start squares defined, to cope better with certain "creative" map designs. For example, if you have a map with only two start squares, and you have a game of two teams where each team has a pillbox close to one of the start squares, then each team will effectively have their own 'private' start square, because with only two start squares to choose from when bringing a new tank into the game, Bolo will choose the one near the friendly pillbox, not the one near the hostile pillbox."

This was implemented for version 1.09. And yes, it does seem odd that you would respawn at the same point up to 8 or 9 times in a row before a game. Could it be possible that LGM respawns also use the tank respawn algorithm? It doesn't seem like it would, as I remember games where I lose my LGM in my quad yet it comes back from near an enemy quad.
