Minborg

Mar 16, 2003 23:03 Minborg
I've been considering releasing minborg to the public,I've been building it in some form or another for about a year and a half .... all it really does is allows you to easily see messages sent from other players to you ... (via ally chat, or otherwise) and it records them in a .txt file for later reference. I'm just wondering if anyone is actually interested in it.

sounds pretty good...

ppl probably won't take it unless it does other things, too.

So, if u want my advice, give the code to sticks or another person who has a working bot and let them use it, while you bask in the glory. :P

so sticks has a working bot? ...... interesting ...... its not intended to do anythign else ... its a borg ... and It won't do anything else ......but I guess that answers my question ........

I'm a bit vague on what exactly it does. Improvements to the messaging system could be quite useful. Perhaps you could post a screenshot?

Psh, it barely works. But you already know about it, Min. I don't know if you've tried the latest version though:

sure .. if I can figure out how to put images into this silly thing .....

the perks of this borg is that you get ally messages instantly, and the program automatically logs all conversations into a file so you can use it to later recall what someone said in a game. I personally use it to record the length of every game I play so that I can at a later time recall the games I've played.

I for one think this is a great idea, very useful borg, especially for those reaching the "prime of our lives", memory is one of the first to go... now what was I talking about... sort of a poor man's spielborg. One idea might be to include the time zone, or to at least have it use EST, to match up with the game archive on wbn.

minborg uses the time of the computer its running on ...

I have but four words:

RELEASE IT YOU BOZO!!!!!! :D

I spent enought time beta testing it for you I'd hate for all of that time to have been wasted if you don't release it! Plus it's a cool borg!

Hey min,

I have been trying out minborg and have a few points:
- I don't see any log files on my computer, looked in 'brains' first then did a date search... with no luck.
- any chance the next version can have a way to change the color? Red is nice and all, if you're the devil!

Nice job on the bot!

do a search for minborg.txt
and well ..... I duno about the red, I'll have to think about it.

No luck finding minborg.txt for me. Does anyone else see the text output file? It is still a handy app for keeping track of text during the game though.

Have you thought of adding an initialization message bar text like most other bots have (like "Minborg v1.0 started" to all players? It's not entirely relevant in this case since minborg doesn't give a player an advantage, but it might be a some nice pr for your work!

sheeps: yes I see the minborg.txt in my brains folder of my winbolo directory. For your info, my winbolo directory is set directly at c:/winbolo.

I've thought about it, But I have no plans on doing that ... as with everything I do .. I feel .. none of anyone's business what other people are doing...... dunno why the .txt file isn't showing up .. maybe try creating it in the brains directory (minborg.txt) and see if it writes to it.

I tested his borg a few times and yes, I was also unable to find the text file of each game. Or if I did find it, it was empty.
Jun 17, 2003 02:24
interesting ...... pretty weird ...... :/ .... its not like the way I write to file is complicated .... "fout << stuffforfile" ....

Jun 17, 2003 02:25
sheeps is using XP and sticks is using windows 2000 ? ...

If you’re not explicitly setting the path to where the file is written it will be written to the current working directory. Usually this will be the WinBolo or Brains directory. However it could be the last directory used by WinBolo or another application. Examples: The sounds directory, the directory the map was opened from or the last document was opened.
Jun 17, 2003 07:02
ya, I'm writing it to the current working directory .... but they claim a search for minborg.txt comes up with nothing ... which is what I find odd ..

Are they searching straight away or after they have quit the game? Maybe the file is cached and not written yet?

Is the brain closing the file explictly when it is closed?
